Tandy Scholars Two West Brunswick High School seniors have been recog nized in the Tandy Technology Scholars program this year. They are Mary Rachel Pearce, the school's outstanding math sciencc computer science stu dent school nominee, and Melissa Lynn Robinson, among the top two percent academic nominees. Both received certificates. Excel At Sandhill Two Brunswick County students have been named to academic hon ors lists at Sandhills Community College. Cynthia May Alexander is on the dean's list, with a grade point aver age of 3.5 or higher, and Lael Michael McWinn is on the presi dent's list, with a grade point aver age of 4.0. Both are full-time stu dents. Brevard Honor Roll Derrick Lorenzo Weaver was named to the honor roll at Brevard College for the fall 1993 semester. He is the son of Bcrnicc M. Weaver of Shallotte. To make the honor roll, a student musi eomplete at least 12 semester hours of credit, score between a 3.0 and 3.49 grade point average anil have no grade below a "D." Cobb Serving On Saratoga Petty Officer 2nd Class I'raig A. Cobb is serving aboard the aircraft carrier t/.S.S Saratoga, currently sta tioned off the coast of the former re public of Yugoslavia. Cobb is the son of Patricia Ann Grissette and a Il)K4 graduate of West Brunswick High School. The ships of the Saratoga Joint Task Force group left their Last Coast homeports in early January. "1 feel proud knowing that I am part of a team that is helping oth ers," said Cobb. The Saratoga, according to a Navy news release, is a "floating airport with its own supporting city," capable of making 120 take offs and landings per day. "With more than 5.000 beds and a restau rant that serves more than 20,000 meals a day, the ship also operates its own radio and TV station, bank, shopping mall and laundry service." Cobb, a radioman, is a member of the Saratoga team who works in the carrier's communications depart ment as a technician control supervi sor in charge of communications for the ship, the aircraft wing and the admiral's staff. When the Saratoga returns home in June from her 22nd deployment, the 38-year-old carrier is scheduled tor decommissioning in August.
