Local Deaths And Funerals RUDY MARESCA Rudy Maresca. 62. of Womblc Street, Yaupon Beach, died April 12 at Doshcr Memorial Hospital. Prayer service was held April 14 at Peacock-Newnam Funeral Chapel with Father Frank Mahoney officiat ing. Mr. Maresca was born Sept. 22. 1931. in Nyack, N.Y.. son of the late Antonio and Catherine Amitrani Maresca and moved here four years ago from Rockland County. N Y. He was a retired plumber with American Cyanamid, Lederle Laboratories Branch, in Pearl River, N.Y., following more than 40 years of service. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of the American Legion, Oak island Moose Lodge and Brunswick Newcomers Club. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lindemann Maresca of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce R. and John Pic of Dumont, N.J.; a brother. Perry Maresca of Ogden; two sisters, Josephine Natale of St. Petersburg, Fla.. and Gloria Miotk of Inverness. Fla.; and three grand children. LLOYD ETHRIDGE HICKMAN Lloyd Ethridge Hickman. 34, of Cherry Tree Road, Winnabow. died Wednesday, April 13, at his resi dence. Mr. Hickman was bom in New Hanover County on June 16, 1959, and was the son of the late Colon Hickman and Mrs. Ix?is Gore Hick man, who survives, of Winnabow. He was a member of the Orton Hunting Club. Surviving in addition to his moth er are his wife, Denise Hickman of the home; two sons, Cody Hickman and Ethan Hickman of the home; and four brothers, Norman Hickman of Shallotte, Colon Hickman of Winnabow, and Jerry Hickman and David Hickman, both of Lcland. Funeral services were held April 15 at 11 a.m. at the graveside in Robbins Cemetery, Mill Creek Community, with the Rev. Rocky Gregorv officiating. JESSE A. "JACK" LEWIS JR. Jesse A. "Jack" lx wis Jr., 79, of Fayetteville died April 12. Mr. Lewis owned a beach home in Brunswick County and was a fre quent visitor here. Funeral services were held April 15 at Jernigan-Warren Chapel in Fayetteville with Dr. John K. Berg land and the Rev. Bob Poulk. Burial was in Cross Creek Cemetery with Masonic rites. Mr. Lewis was retired from Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. He was a charter member of Haymount United Methodist Church and was past master of Phoenix Lodge 8 and a member of Scottish Rite and Sudan Temple. He is survived by his wife, Mary Smith Lewis of the home; three daughters, Patricia L. Owen and Jac quelyn L. Weyhenmeyer, both of Fayetteville, and Carolyn L. Wilson of Las Vegas, Nev.; two stepdaugh ters, Peggie S. Owens of Huntsville, Ala., and Judy A. Smith of Fayet teville; a sister, Bertha Ixwis Clark of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, one step-granddaughter and six great-grandchildren. RICHARD H. REILLY Richard Henry Reilly, 67, of Carolina Shores Parkway died April 13 in Conway, S.C., Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., he was a son of the late Joseph and Margaret Tolster Reilly. Mr. Reilly had served in the U.S. Navy and was a retiree of Automatic Radio Co. He was a member of the Calabash Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Carney Reilly; three sons. Richard Reilly Jr. of Norfolk. Mass.. Mark Reilly of Westwood, Mass.. and Robert Reilly of Boston: four brothers, Edward Reilly of Ocala. Fla., Joseph Reilly of Westport. Conn.. James Reilly of New Jersey and Victor Reilly of Trumbuli, Conn.; two sisters, Lillian Marchant of Virginia and Dorothy Dwyer of Bridgeport: and five grandchildren. RALPH IVAN INMAN Ralph Ivan Inman. 65. died April 16 at McLcod Hospital after an ill ness. Born in Little River, S.C., he was the son of the late George Herbert and Rosctta Ward Inman. He was a retired carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Laura Bennett Inman of Little River, S.C.; three sons, Charles W. Inman of Ash, Ricky I. Inman of Matthews and Donald H. Inman of Raleigh; three brothers, Lynwood Inman of Shallotte. Otha Inman of Charleston. S.C., and Albert Inman of Little River: two sisters, Elveters Gore and Grace Inman of Little River; and four grandchilren. Funeral services were held April 18 at Pleasant Plain Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Williams and the Rev. Mack HuLson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. GENE B ADO LATO Gene Badolato. 69. of Saltaire Village, Calabash, died April 14 at The Brunswick Hospital in Supply. Born Nov. 13, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y. he was a son of the late Rosario and Angelina Giovenco Badolato. He was a retired jeweler and a Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Millie Scarpinato Badolato; a daughter, Jeanne Ofsharick of Mount Pocono, Pa.; a sister, Agnes Cronk of Lindenhurst, Long Island, N.Y.; and a grandchild. The funeral was held April 18 in the Chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service with the Rev. Francis Maloney officiating. Burial was in Brunswick Memorial Gardens. JULIAN MARICE PRICE SR. Julian Marice Price Sr. of Lanvale Road, Leland, died April IS in New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born in Southport on Nov. 11, 1920, the son of the late Johnny Dawson and Maude Arnold Price. Mr. Price was a member of Elah Baptist Church and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army dur ing World War II. Surviving are his wife, Esther Odessa Mintz Price of the home; his sons, George E. Price and wife Anne of Charleston, S.C., John S. Price and wife Monica of Bolivia, J.M. Price Jr. and wife Wanda of Leland, and Jerry D. Price and wife Donna of Leland; brothers Paul Price of Leland, Joe Price of Council, William Price of Long Beach and J.D. Price of Southport; sister Car olyn Daley of Southport; and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held April 17 in Elah Baptist Church, Leland, by the Rev. Jack Miller and the Rev. John Sellars. Burial was in the Price Family Cemetery. Leland. WESLEY CARTER EVANS Wesley Carter Evans, 95, of Civietown Road, Supply, died April 15 in Autumn Care of Shallotte. Born in Brunswick County on Jan. 10, 1899, he was a son of the late Hanes (Sonny) and Bridget Ann Hewett Evans. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his wife. Bertha Jane Evans; two sons, Washington and Herman Evans; and a daughter, Lillian Louise Evans. Survivors include one son, Wesley K. (W.C.) Evans of Shal lotte; two daughters, Florence E. Hewett and Geneva E. Hewett, both of Shallotte; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held April 17 in Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Childress. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery. JULIE MARIE PARKER Julie Marie Parker, 15, of Mount Pisgah Road, Supply, died April 15. She was born in New Hanover County on Nov. 5, 1978. She was a member of the freshman class at West Brunswick High School. She is survived by her father, John Fred "Ricky" Parker Jr. and wife Linda of the home; her mother. Amber D. Simpson and husband Bob of Inverness, Fla.; four sisters, Melissa Parker, Sarah Parker, Amanda Varnam and Hope Varnam, all of the home; maternal grandpar ents, Fred and Betty Parker of Supply; paternal great-grandmother, Fannie Parker of Supply; and mater nal grandparents, Joe and Frances Morgan of Durham. A service to celebrate Julie's life was held April 18 at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Service Chapel. Burial was at the home. IRIS LOUISE W. HEWETT Iris Louise W. Hewett, 68, of Marshall Street, Shallotte. died April 15 in The Brunswick Hospital. Born in Concord on July 26, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Marvin Stacy Ward Sr. and Pauline Cravcr Ward. She was employed by the Brunswick County Farm Bureau and was a member of the Shallotte Chapter of Eastern Star and the Woodmen of the World. Survivors include her husband, O. Kenneth Hewett of the home; two sons, Jimmy Marshall of Shallotte and Chris Marshall of Spartanburg, S.C.; three daughters, Carolyn M. Hewett of Fuquay-Varina, Dianna M. Mix)re of Homosassa Springs, Fla., and Marilee M. Tilley of Clayton; a brother, Marvin S. Ward Jr. of Charlotte; three sisters, Annicc W. Fisher of Roanoke. Va., Betsy W. White of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Polly W. Williams of Charlotte; and 14 grandchildren. Funeral services were held April 18 in the Chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service, conducted by the Rev. Harper Jr., publisher and former editor of the weekly State Port Pilot, died April 15 in Dosher Memorial Hospital. Southport. He was 82. Mr. Harper had remained active as an editorial writer and columnist for the family newspaper, where he started as editor in 1935, through its most recent publication on April 13. A native of Holly Springs and son of the late Dr. James M. and Susie McGee Harper, he was a graduate of Guilford College, a Navy veteran of World War II, a past president of the N.C. Press Association and a mem ber of Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport. His community service included work with the ration board during early World War II, hospital board, youth baseball, civil defense, local school board, Bald Head Island Conservancy and Southport Maritime Museum Advisory Board. He was director emeritus of United Carolina Bank in Southport and was responsible for the recent donation of oaks for planting along down town city streets. Graveside services were April 19 in Oleander Memorial Gardens. Wilmington. Mr. Segars was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Lee County. S.C.. son of the late Robert Newman and Lily Moore Segars. He moved to Yaupon Beach from Darlington in 1970. He was a member of United Methodist Men and was a retired heavy equip ment operator. He was born on March 13, 1930, in Grafton, Nebraska, a son of the late Jacob and Karline Ackermann Klundt. He was a retired truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving arc his wife. Rose Marie Klundt; a son, Anthony Klundt of Falls Church, Va.; four daughters, Deborah Klundt and Linda Klundt, both of Falls Church, Pamela Jones of Bouie, Md., and Vicki Nickel of Ash; two brothers, Edward Klundt of El Cajun, Calif., and Otto Klundt of York, Neb.; two sisters. Rose Ann Blair of Castro Valley, Calif., and Gertrude Henderson of Lincoln, Neb; and one grandson, Justin Nickel. Funeral services were to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the Chapel of Brunswick Funeral Servicc, Shallotte, by the Rev. Robert Tilley. Burial was to be in the Manley Bennett Cemetery. CLYDE J. BLACKBURN Clyde J. Blackburn, 57, of Strat ford, Conn., and Ash died March 30 in Baptist Hospital in Connecticut. He was born in Conway, S.C., to Carl and Doshie Hewett. He was a driver for Standard Oil of Connect icut for ten years. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Phelan Blackburn; son Richard Lee Blackburn; two daughters, Karen Blackburn-Usina, Beverly Martin of St. Augustine, Fla., and Christopher Woods of North Carolina; a brother. Robert Blackburn of Sacramcnto, Calif.; three grandchildren and sev eral nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday. April 23. at 1 p.m. at the family's home on Alligator Road in Ash. The family requests that no flowers be sent. CARLENE GRAY WHITE Carlene Gray White, 54, died April 18 at her residence in Glou cester, Va., after a long illness. A Brunswick County native, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Edwin Gray Sr. of Shallotte. She was preceded in death by her brother, Henry E. Gray Jr. Surviving are her husband, George White Jr.; a son, Wendell White of Gloucester; four daughters, Tricia Walker, Donna Dutton, Sandy Booker and Cindy White, all of Gloucester; a brother, David Gray of Shallotte; three sisters, Leatrice Smith, Clarice Fields and Debbie Cumbec, all of Shallotte; and a spe cial aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Carlisle of Ash. PEARL TANNER MESSER Pearl Tanner Messer, 82. of Fayetteville, died April 18 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was a native of Johnston County, born May 7, 1911, a daughter of the late Ben and Nancy Ellen Norris Messer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. April 21 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. The Rev. Curtiss Tatum will officiate. Burial will follow in Hodges Chapel Cemetery on Route 1, Benson.
