HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL North Stays Unbeaten In TRC North Brunswick's baseball team picked up two wins last week to remain undefeated in the ITirec Rivers Conference, thanks in large part to a pair of bona fide college pitching prospects. Senior Paul Mintz fired a complete-game, four-hitter last Thursday at Red Springs, two nights after junior Casey McBride hurled a no-hitter against Bladenboro. In Thursday's game. Mintz struck out 12 batters in the 8-4 victory over the Red Devils. The left-hander im proved his pitching mark to 4-0 as the Scorpions ran their record to 5-0 in the conference and 9-5 overall. Jeff Clark and John Sweeney had two hits each for North Brunswick, which scored five runs in the fourth inning. Despite the fine outing by Mintz, it wasn't the best pitching performance of the week for the Scorpions. Last Tuesday, McBride tossed a no-hitter and North Brunswick defeated Bladenboro 4-0 in a Three Rivers Conference game in Lcland. The right-handed McBride, who is 5-2 on the sea son, recorded 13 strikeouts against the visiting Bulldogs. He had a perfect game going until he walked a batter in the sixth inning. McBride also sparked the Scorpion offense. He led off the fourth inning with a triple and came home on Robert Hewett's RBI single. The Scorpions added three runs in the sixth. After losing four of its first six games this season. North Brunswick has won seven of its last eight games and carries a four-game winning streak into this week. In five conference games this season, Mintz and McBride have allowed a total of 10 hits and five runs. In addition to last week's no-hitter, McBride has hurled a two-hit shutout and Mintz has pitched a one-hit shutout in conference play. North Brunswick was scheduled to continue league play Tuesday with a home game against South Robeson. The Scorpions will begin the second round of confer ence play Friday night at Fairmont.
