" Local Student's Designs A/I ay Boost Sub Operation jody Dale proposed changes in Cape Fear Community College's submersible "Cape Fear" as a class project. However, when the sub re turns to competition in 1996, it will feature his modifications. Daie, a Shaiiotte resident, is a sec ond-vear drafting and design student atCFCC. The Cape Fear earned special recognition as the only community college entry in the last International Submarine Competition held in Flo rida as well as placing in the top third of the 40-plus entries. The crew reported difficulties with overeteering and maneuverabil ity underwater, in an effort to correct those problems, the Shallotte resi dent proposed cutting the fins and bowplanes and applying a new "skin" or exterior finish. Dale firs: designed the changes using AutoCad, then made the changes on a CFCC model of the Cape Fear, combining his design skills with a longtime hobby of working with models. "That's going to be it," he said proudly of the model. Dale said he is also helping re design the CFCC school logo. C1-3REW BEER KITS ? WINE KITS CORDIAL KITS HOURS: 1207 H?y. 17 S.
