Brunswick Hospital Recognizes 33 Volunteers Thirty-three volunteers were hon ored April 28 by The Brunswick Hospital with a volunteer recogni tion luncheon at Haley's Restaurant in Calabash. Volunteers received gifts and pins BUSINESS BRIEFS before an audience that included their guests, hospital administrators and other staff members. The Brunswick Hospital Auxil iary has been active in both the hos pital and the community throughout Williams Recognized For Safety Program Bmcc Williams, area specialized lurfgrass agent and Urunswick Bea con columnist, recently received a statewide top entry award from the N.C. Safety Council recognizing his contribution to safety in N.C. He was pre sented a plaque during an chcon at the WILLIAMS McKimmon Center on the N.C. Slate University campus April 28. Williams developed an eight-hour employee education program for golf course and landscape workers based os surveys of landscape man agers and discussions with golf course superintendents from the Cape Fear Golf Course Super intendents Association. The course trains golf course and landscape maintenance workers to conduct daily maintenance chores more safe ly and efficiently. R.N., patient care coordinator and social services director at The Brunswick Hospital, was recently inducted into Sigma Thcta Tau. the International Honor Society of Nursing, along with other members of the" former UNC-W Nursing Honor Society. The Shallot te native took over the operation April IS from Curtis and Ethel Williamson. The Williamsons retired after having been affiliated with the business for approximately 27 years. The operation includes a grill, entertainment center and 703 foot wooden fishing pier. Williams said he is making "a few changes," including expandion of his merchandise line. He also man ages several other businesses in the Ocean isle aiu. New GoH Director Sea Trail Plantation and Golf Links has named Michael Kailam as its new director of golf. A graduate of Wake Forest Uni versity, Kallam played on the school's golf team with PGA Tour player and Ryder Cup C*pUiii Laoay Watkins. He will overaee the daily opera tions of Sea TYail's three golf cours es and will organize tournaments and group outings. In addition members have arranged purchase of items for several hospi tal departments, including a choles terol screening machine to be used at community events and walk-in Auxiliary members contributed 6.504 hours of service to the hospi tal during the past year, the equiva lent of three fvill-time employees, a service valued at more than STO.OOO. The group serves various hospital depaitmrnts and helps in making pa lients and visitors comfortable. Frances Warner serves as patient advocate and volunteer director for the hospital. A total of 78 permits were issued for mobile homes and 21 for other single-family dwellings built at in estimated total cost of $1,821,932. There were no permits issued in March for commercial conduction. Eight permits were issued for $78,215 worth of additions. Five were approved for garages valued at $100,206 and four for decks or porches valued at Si 8320.
