sity in Charleston, S.C.
He was born in Mount Vernon,
N.Y., Aug. 23, 1922, son of the late
William S. and Caroline Keller Durr.
He retired as a captain in the U.S.
Navy after 30 years of service and
scrvice in Worid^ War II and the
Korean Conflict, following his mili

Hills School District in Annonk
Village, N.Y.
He was a graduate of the Mer
chant Marine Academy, a member
of the Veteran* of Fnmion Ware thr

onic Lodge in Pleasantville, N.Y Dr
Durr was an information representa
tive for the U.S. Merchant Marine
Academy.

Homer Lee Johnston, 88, of
Charlotte and Ocean Isle Beach died

ter. Mr. Johnston was born May 26,
1905, in Charlotte, the son of the
late Matthew McCamie Johnston
and the late Alice McLean Johnston.
He retired from J.B. ivey and Co.
in 1969 after 33 years and started
developing real estate at Ocean Isle
Reach, where he served three terms
as mayor and 18 years on the town
council. He was instrumental in
forming the first nuisiup by ii?c
Sea" services at Ocean Isle 25 yeans
ago.
Johnston was a lifelong member
of Hickory Grove Methodist Church
where he served as church school
superintendent for 17 years and for
whom the Homer Lee Johnston
Library was named. He was an hon
orary member of the administrative
board and also a member of the
Golden Years Club. He was also an

Shelton Horstley Moore, 82, of
Ocean Isle, formerly of Fairmont,
died May 4 at Duke Medical Center
following an extended illness.
He was bom Dec. 25, 1911, in
Halifax County, Va., and was the
son of the late Robert E L? and
Pocahontas Chancy Moore. He was
a Navy veteran of World War II and
had retired from the lumber business
in 1968. He was a member of First
Baptist Church in Fairmont and
Woodmen of the World.
Funeral services were held May 8
at Floyd Funeral Chapel in Fairmont
with Dr. Thomas Rich and the Rev.
Dan Norman officiating. Burial was
in Floyd Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Moore is survived by his
wife, Doris Sealey Moore of the
