WALTER JOSEPH GLNDEKSEN Walter Joseph Gundersen, 72, of Boiling Spring Lakes died May 12 at his residence. Mr. Gundersen was bom July 20, 1921. in Brooklyn, N.Y.. a son of the late George and Florence Ornel! Gundersen. He moved here from New Jersey in 1987. He was a mem ber of Fox Squirrel Country Club, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired mechanical eneineer with N.E.R.C. BETTY SKIPPER LANE Betty Skipper Lane of Rieg elwood died May 14 in New Han over Regional Medical Center. ^She was born in Wilmington on Oct. 26, 1933, the daughter of James Melton Skipper of Maco and the late Willa Mae Ellis Skipper. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Mae Lane, and her sister. Shirley Ann McKenzie. Mrs. Lane was a member of Deico hirst Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Ladies Aux iliary of theVFW Post 10401. Rieg elwood, serving several terms as auxiliary president. ROURK, M.D. Malcolm Henderson Rourk y ? - of Wage Road. Shallottc] May 12 in The Brunswick Hos pital. He was born June 20. 1903. in Wilmington, a son of the late Will iam Asbury and Sarah Helen Stone Rourk. He was first married to the late Mane Foscue. Dr. and Mrs. Rourk donated property for the West Bruns wick Branch Library, the Masonic Lodge, the National Guard Armory, the County Health Department (now the Seniors Center ), the expansion of Shallotte Presbvterian Church and many other churches in the Shaiiotie area. They were instrumental in bringing the N.C Symphony to Brunswick County for many years. Dr. Rourk served as team doctor and gave to the building and athletic programs at Shallotte High School. He was on the local school commit tee and the county board of educa tion for 26 years. He helped save Sunnyside School from destruction. He was a 1924 graduate of the University of North Carolina, a 1926 graduate of the UNC School of Medicine and a 1928 graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he Muiiicu under uie iviayu brothers. He attended Harvard University in 1934 under a Ford Foundation Fellowship and served in the Army Medical Corps in the United States and Southwest Pacific during World War II. He was a colonel at the time of separation. Dr. Rourk practiced mcdicine for 42 years and was the first physician in Brunswick County to have an electrograph. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Scottish and York Rites; a Shriner; and had served on local and state levels. He hsd been involved with Lions International since 1939 and had served as international di rector from 1964-66. Dr. Rourk was a charter member of Shallotte Presbyterian Church and the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Bcach. Survivors include his wife. RAYMOND HALL CLARK Raymond Hall Clark, 53, died April 24 in Hollywood, Fia. He was a Vietnam veteran who served in the Air Force. He is survived by his parents, Julius B. Clark and Edith Clark of Shallotte; two brothers, Julius Jr. and Robert, both of Florida; and nu merous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in Miami, Ha. A memorial service will be held at Camp United Methodist Church on Sunday. May 22, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. George D. Speakc officiating. ROBERT CLAYTON HEWETT Robert Clayton Hewett, 75, of Gully Creek Trail, Leland, died May 15 at his residence. Mr. Hewett was bom in Launnburg on June 5, 1918, to the late liwis an>j Eiien inman Hewett. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ua H. Moriarty. Survivors include his wife, Carol S.
