Central University in Durham She is the daughter of Joseph and Edna Burney of Shallotte and the grand daughter of Emest and Prarline Walker of Longwood and Ollic G Burney of Supply. While attending NCCU. she vol unteered as a tutor for Operation Sunbeam. She was a member of the lota Tau Chapter of Phi Beta lambda Business Fraternity, the Alpha Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the American Mar keting Association and the National Association for Female Executives. Phi Theta Kappa is an honor soci ety that recognizes academic achievement for two-year college students. She plans to pursue in 2 csrccr in the travel and tourism industry. New Marine Marine Pvt. Thomas A. Miles, son of Aileen Miles of Supply, re cently completed recruit training. During the training cycle at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. S.C., recruits arc taught the basics of battlefield survival, intro duced to typical military daily rou tine. and personal and professional standards. They participate in physical con ditioning and gain proficiency in military skills including First aid, ri fle marksmanship and close-order drill. Teamwork and self-discipline are emphasized throughout the cy cle. Miles is a 1993 graduate of West Brunswick High School. Three Aboard Saratoga Three Navy petty officers with family in Brunswick County are midway through a six-month de ployment in the Adriatic Sea aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, home ported in Mayport. Fla., the lead ship in its battle group. They are: S Petty Officer 1st Clsss Dsvid C. Kilgore, son of Robert E. and Janice M. Kilgorc of Bayberry Circle. Calabash. Seventy -live chip ami uirwing sailors made a goodwill visit to a refugee camp in Slovenia, where they painted the camp's buildings, played soccer with residents and en joyed an afternoon of music by the Saratoga Band.
