Grand Jury Returns 2 1 Felony indictments AyGinst hvs Suspects On Sex Charges Alleged sex offenses dominated the deliberations of a Brunswick County grand jury iast week as it re turned 21 felony indictments against five suspects accused of crimes that include rape, incest and taking inde cent liberties with children. The grand jury also returned a murdet indictment against Daniel Cummin gs Jr., 29, of Red Springs in the April 22 shooting of Ash store owner Bums Everette Babson. Among those indicted last week were: ? Russell Lee Kirk, 32, of Green Loop Road, Lei and, on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree kid napping, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and four counts of first -degree sexual of fense. He is accuscd of abducting a Wilmington woman, cutting her with a razor knife, raping her and forcing her to perform other sex acts during a four-hour ordeal in the Leland area May 5. ? 31, of C <>cu/?l 1 Beach on five counts each of taking indecent liberties and crimes against nature. He is accused of having in decent sexual relations with a boy who was under the age of 16 at the time of the offenses, which are al leged to have occurred between June 15, 1992, and Feb. 20, 1994. ? Gary Lee Walrath, 38, of Supply, on two counts of felonious incest. He is accused of having "car nal intercourse" with a family mem ber in September and October of last year. ? Efird Bums Cox, 66, of 19th Street Long Beach, on a charge of first-degree sexual offense with a fe male child under the age of 13. ? Lewis Brantley Morgan, 52, of Buckeye Road, Leiand. on one count of taking indecent liberties with a girl younger than 16. ? Ronald Ellis Robbons. 42, of Cedar Hill Loop Road, Leland, on one charge each of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury and possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of co caine possession. He is accused of using a shotgun to shoot Gregory Ballard in the back of his upper thighs on April 11. ? Bobby Gene Evans, 40, of North Fodale Avenue, South port on one count each of assault with a firearm on a government official, as sault on a government official, re sisting a public officer and commu nicating threats. Shawn Everette Lashley, 21, of Ashboro on nine counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, seven counts of larceny and one charge each of felonious possession of stolen goods and larceny of a firearm. He i* accused of breaking into cars in the Long Beach area, in cluding an unmarked police vehicle, and stealing more than $2,000 worth of property, including a .25 -caliber handgun. ? Daniel Ray Hardison, 23, of Cedar Hill Road, Leland, on a charge of habitual impaired driving. According to the indictment, Hard ison was arrested April 9 on a charge of driving while impaired by alcohol after being convicted of that charge on April 5, i989, on June 10, 1993, and on Nov. 10, 1993. ? Allen Dale Brooks, 30, of Hideaway Drive, Shallotte, on one charge each of possession with in tent to sell <uiu deliver cocaine, traf ficking cocaine by manufacture, trafficking cocaine by possession and two counts of maintaining a place to keep controlled substances. ? Rupert Lee Edge, 45, of North Myttie Beach on one charge each of trafficking cocaine by possession, by manufacture and by transporta tion, and one count of maintaining a place to keep controlled substances. ? George Lewis Hooper, 40, of Dogwood Road, Leland, on one count each of possessing drug para phernalia and cocaine possession. ? Leonard Ray White, on one count each of possessing cocaine and possession of drug parapherna lia. ? Ricky Vamum, 33, of Route 5, Southport, on a charge of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery. He is accused of presenting a prescription for 10 pills to a phar macist after the form had been al tered to read 40 pills. ?
