Two Injured In Reported Drive-By Shooting in Navassa Brunswick County sheriff's de tectives are investigating a report of a ririvc-t>y shotgun shooting that in jured a man and a woman in Na vassa iate Monday night, according to a crime report on file at the sher iff's office Tuesday morning Deputy Anthony Key was dis patched at about 11:30 to investigate a reported shooting at the corner of Plumb Street and Water Street Ar riving on the scene a few minutes later, he said he found a woman "who had obviously been shot." The woman, link Jnw 28, cf Conway, S.C., told Key that she had been riding her bicycle down Plumb Street when she was hit in the face and torso by a blast from a shotgun. The other victim, Bernard Hoop er. SO, of Main Street, Leland, was likewise wounded as he sat on a nearby bench, according to Detec tive Ken Messer, who has been as signed to investigate the shooting "Right now I'm no? sere exactly what we have," Messer said Tues day "I just learned about it this mor ning. i ve omy spoken to one of the victims. All I know is that two peo ple got shot." Residents of the neighborhood re ported hearing two shotgun blasts and other small arms fire at the time of the incident. Messer said. The wounds are believed to have been inflicted by small pellets of bird shot, he said After the shooting, two "male subjects" helped James to a home on Wstcr Street aad called 911, Key's report said. Neither man could iden tify the assailant or the vehicle from which the shots are alleged to have come. An investigation into the incident is continuing Messer said he was not sure about the condition of the victims. He believes both were treat ed and released from an area hospi tal.
