jw? fMoro iv tAtovru rwtAn A MYRTLE BEACH MAS was seriously injured when this concrete truck overturned as he tried to take the 90-degree curve at Jennies Branch Church. He n<as charged with speeding. Concrete Truck Overturns; Driver Injured A Myrtle Beach. S.C.. man was seriously injured last Thursday morning when the loaded American Concrete Co. truck he was driving overturned in a sharp curve near Jennies Branch Baptist Church on N.C. 179. Ricky Lynn Hobbs, 35, was trans ported to The Brunswick Hospital a! Supply with serious but not incapac itating injuries. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed by Trooper D.A. Lewis of the N.C. Highway Patrol. The accident happened June 2 at around 9:15 a.m., 2. 7 miles south of Shallotte. Hobbs was operating a 1983 International loaded with con crete. As he entered the 90-degree left-hand curve, the weight of the load shifted, causing the vehicie to overturn, reported Lewis. The truck slid off the highway onto the right shouiaer, on its right side. Damage to the vehicle was esti mated at $7,000. A Sha! lotto man was charged in 2 single-vehicle accident that hap pened Saturday. June 4. at 3:20 a.m.. 7.2 miles west of Calabash on Cala bash Road (S.R. 1300). William Frank McLean, 22, of Shallotte. was charged with careless and reckless driving by Trooper H.R. Smith. McLean was driving a 1993 GMC truck west on Calabash Road when the vehicle ran off the high way and struck two road signs, then came to rest after striking a tree. Damage to the vehicle was esti mated at $4,000. McLean was taken to The Bruns wick Hospital at Supply with com plaints of injury. Teachers' Environmental Program Sponsored By Soil, Water Districts The Soil and Water Conservation Districts of Brunswick, New Han over and Pender Counties and UNC Wilmington will sponsor an envi ronmental awareness program for K-12 teachers June 20-23 at Bruns wick Community College. "Environmental Awareness: Let's Reduce. Reuse and Recycle" will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day. Registration deadline is June iO.
