ding trip up the coast to Maine.

'An International Affair'
Is Patriots' Ball Theme
Set For 4th July Festival
"An International Affair" is the
theme of the 1994 Patriots Ball, one
of the fust events of the N.C. Fourth
of July Festival.
The ball will be on June 18 at 8
p.m. at St. James Plantation.
The semi-formal affair will ex
press its theme from decorations and
a selection ot hots o'oeuvres from

feature skewered pepper steak and
egg rolls from the Orient, and mini
pancakes with applesauce and
bratwurst with pastry from
Germany. Italy will be represented
by assorted cheeses, meatballs, pas
ta, sausage and peppers; finger sand
wiches, chicken fingers and potato
skins round out the menu for the
USA. Dessert will include angel
food cake, hot fudge and fresh fruits.
Guests will dance to the sounds of
the Jax Pendall Band, offering musi
cal favorites from beach and country

The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. V.W. Simmons Jr. of
Persiinmoa Road, Calabash. She is a
1990 graduate of West Brunswick
High School and attended South
eastern Community College and
Brunswick Community Cot lege. Sne
is a teacher at Calabash Day Care.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald F. Gates of Long
Gates Way, Ash. He is a graduate of
West Brunswick High School and
Cape Fear Community College. He
is an instrument technician with
Cape Industries in Wilmington.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a white satin gown
with lace trim, adorned with sequins
and pearls. The V-back featured a
bow and cathedral-length train
trimmed in lace and pearls. She
wore a headband of white roses and
pearls with two-layer veil trimmed
in rose edging design. She carried a
cascade of peach and white roses,
pearls, lace and ribbon.
Attending the bride as matron of
honor was her cousin, Penni S. King
of Raleigh. Irene Gates of Wilm
ington, the groom's sister, was
bridesmaid. They wore peach-col
ored tea-length dresses with button
down front and ribbon detail on the
bodice. They carried bouquets of
peach roses, lilies and pearls.
Flower girl was Tiffany Bennett,
who wore a white dre9s with scal
loped neck with peach roses on the
shoulders and a V in the center.
Best man was Vince Simmons of
Calabash, brother of the bride. Ush
ers were Gary Reaves of Shallotte,
brother of the bride, and Danny
Hughes, cousin of the groom, of
Thomasboro. Ring-bearer was Seth
Roberts, cousin of the bride. They
wore grey tuits and peach lies.

bouquets.
Nichole Reaves, niece of tbe
bride, of ShalloUe, attended the
guest register and handed out bul
letins.
A reception in the church fellow
ship hall followed the ceremony.
The couple will live at ShalloUe
Point.
