Shallotte Man Sentenced To
1 0 Years On Sex Charges
A 48-year-old Shallotte man was
sentenced to 10 years in prison last
week after pleading guilty in
Brunswick County Superior Court
to !'a:' counts of faking indecrnt lib
erties with a child younger than 13
years old.
Miles Hanson Price, whose ad
dress is listed on court records as
"General Delivery. Shallotte." also
was charged with two counts of sec
ond-degree rape and one count of
second-degree sexual offense. Those
charges were dismissed as part of a
plea bargain.
Court records indicate that the in
cidents occurred in November.

Judge Knox Jenkins also sentenced
Price to two years in prison, sus
pended on the condition that he not
contact his victim either "directly or
indirectly" and that he not be in her
presence during probation or parole.
Pricc will be put on supervised
probation for two years after his re
lease.

Hideaway Drive, Shallotte. was sen
tenced to five years in prison after
pleading guilty to a charge of pos
session with intent to sell and deliv
er cocaine and two counts each of
cocaine trafficking and maintaining
a dwelling or vehicle for the purpose
of keeping controlled substances.
Work release was recommended.
? Raidel Raymond Monzotc. 25.
of Charlotte was sentenced to seven
years in prison after pleading guilty
to three counts each of breaking and
entering, larceny and possession of
stolen goods.
? Leonard Ray White, 38. of
Route 4. Leland, was sentenced to
five years in prison after pleading no
contest to 13 worthless check
charges, two counts each of cocaine
possession and possession of drug
paraphernalia and one charge of as
sault on a female. He was ordered to
pay $350 in attorney fees and was
recommended for the prison's Drug
Abuse Recovery Training (DART)
program.
? A jury found three Brunswick
County men guilty of simple assault
after a trial on charges of assault in
flicting s. rious injury. All three were
sentenced to 30 days in jail, sus
pended on the condition that they
jointly pav $656 restitution to their
victims. Defendants Eric Andre is.
18. of Randy Street in the Waterway
Acres subdivision of Supply; Lloyd
Jackson, age unavailable, of Ocean
View Avenue. Shallotte; and David
Proctor, age unavailable, of Fairway
Drive. Shallotte. were each put on
unsupervised probation for a year.
They were ordered not to threaten or
assault any of the victims in the
case.
? Ronald Dale Cheers, 25, of Ed
garwtxnl Way, Supply, pleaded
guilty to four charges of taking inde
cent liberties. As part of a plea bar
gain. the four convictions were com
bined into one judgment for sentenc
ing. Cheers was given a three-year
prison sentence, suspended five
years on the condition that he under
go a psychological assessment at the
Southeastern Mental Health center
and follow its recommendations for
treatment.
? Michael Anthony Melton. 36.
of Lincoln Road. Leland, pleaded
guilty to two counts of taking inde
cent liberties and was sentenced to
three years in prison, suspended on
the condition that he perform KM)
hours of community service within
120 days. He was told to continue
treatment and counselling until dis
charged and must reside outside the
home until a psychologist deems it
appropriate for him to return.
Melton was put on supervised pro
bation for two years.
? Darrell Woolen, 34, of Route 3,
Shallotte, admitted violating the
terms of his probation and asked that
his sentence be activated. He was
turned over to the N.C. Department
of Corrections to begin serving a 1()
year senicncc. He wss rcci'mmsnd
ed for the DART program.
? Arlyn Dion Vernon, 23, of Old
Blue Banks Road. Leland. admitted
violating the terms of his probation
and was ordered to begin serving a
10- year prison sentence on 1992
conviction for assault with a deadlv
weapon with intent to kill inflicting
serious injury.
? Charles Piner of Shallotte
pleaded guilty to one charge of first
degree trespass. He was given a
l2()-day jail sentence, suspended 12
months on the condition that he
write a letter of apology and pay
S2(M) restitution to his victim. He
was pu: on supervised probation for
12 months, but will be transferred to
unsupervised probation upon pay
ment of court costs.
? George Lewis Hooper. 40, of
Dogwood Road. Leland, pleaded
guilty to two counts of possession
with intent to sell and deliver co
caine and one charge of possessing

pended five years on payment of a
$400 fine, court costs and S350 in
attorney fees. He was put under a
curfew and ordered to perform 72
hours of community service within
90 days. He was also sentenced to
33 days in jail, with credit for time
served awaiting '.rial. Hooper was
put on intensive supervised proba
tion for five years.
? James Franklin Simmons. 36,
of Cedar Hill Road, Leland, was
sentenced to two years in prison af
ter agreeing to plead no contest to a
charge of possession with intent to
sell and deliver cocaine. Other drug
charges were dismissed in a plea
bargain.
? Patrick Cooney. 29, of Bellamy
Avenue, Shallotte. pleaded guilty to
charges of resisting arrest and injury
to personal property. He had been
charged with assaulting an officer
and being drunk and disruptive, but
pleaded guilty to the lesser offenses
in a plea bargain. He was sentenced
to six months in jail, suspended two
years on the condition that he pay
district court costs, S350 for his
court-appointed lawyer and SI 00 to
the Shallotte Police Department. He
was put on supervised probation
pending payment of restitution.
? In a two-day jury trial. Patsy
Richardson Earnhardt, 56, of East
Yacht Street, Long Beach, was
found guilty of driving under the in
fluence of alcohol. She was sen
tenced to 60 days in jail, suspended
two years on the condition that she
pay a S 100 fine and court costs, sur
render her license and perform 24
hours of community service within
30 days. She was ordered to obtain a
psychological assessment for possi
ble substance abuse and to submit to
chemical tests for drug and alcohol
use. Earnhardt was put on unsuper

charge of driving while impaired by
alcohol ami was sentenced to seven
days in Brunswick County Jail. A
12-month prison sentence was sus
pended on the condition that he pay
a fine of $100 and court costs and
complete 24 hours of community
service within bO days. He was or
dered to undergo an assessment for
possible substance abuse and told
not to drive until he is re-licensed.
Meares was put on supervised pro
bation for two years.
? Debra Elaine Robbins, 36, of
Ballards Mobile Home Park, Le
land. in an earlier conviction for co
caine possession, was given a 10
year prison sentence, suspended
three years on the condition that she
testify truthfully against any co-de
fendants. She was put on supervised
probation for three years.
S Harry Carlton Furlow. 55. of
Ixing Beach pleaded guilty to a
charge of driving while his license
was revoked. The judge issued a
prayer for judgment continued until
Aug. 22.
? Robert Owen Mintz. 18. of East
Oak Island Drive, Long Beach,
asked that his probation be revoked
and was ordered to serve four yean,
in prison as a committed youthful
offender.
? Robert Ernest Cribb, 32, of
Southport admitted violating the
terms of his probation and was
transferred to intensive probation.
He was ordered to pay $300 of the
money he owes the court immedi
ately and $100 per month thereafter.
? George Martin Clemmons, 37,
of Route 3, Shallotte. was allowed to
plead "responsible" to a charge of
exceeding a safe speed after being
arrested for allegedly driving while
impaired by alcohol. The judge also
agreed to issue a prayer for judg
ment continued on payment of court
costs.

stroyed a camping trailer at the Green Oak campground on Holden Beach causeway Friday morning.
The man who was living in the trailer told Tri-Beach Capt. Kelly Hewett that he left food cooking unat
tended on the stove when he left for a nearby store at around 10 a.m. A firefighter driving by the scene
spotted the blaze and notified the Brunswick County Emergency Services (911) Center. The Civietown
Volunteer Fire Department also responded to help keep the fire from spreading to nearby trailers. The
