Phillips-Norton Ceremony Takes Place At Camp Church Keely Deaniene Phillips and Wil liam John Norton, both of Holden Bcach. were united in marriage April lf> in a candlelight double-ring ceremony at Camp United Meth odist Church. The Rev George Speake officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father. She is the daughter of Wayne P and Frieda R. Phillips of Newport. Oregon and the granddaughter of the late Lena Holden Robinson. John E. Robinson Sr., D. Carl and Lonia Stocks Andrews, all of Brunswick County. The groom is the son of Willie and and Yvonne A. Norton of Hol den Beach. The bride wore a formal gown of white satin and English tulle featur ing sequmed and pearl-beaded heart shaped motifs. The Basque waist h>vtir?- was adorned with iewclcd appliques of French Alencon lace. A modified wedding band collar formed an open-front neckline draped with pearl droplets creating an open-heart design The full skirt featured jeweled French Alencon lace appliques on front and back. A back bow caught by a satin rosette at the waist led to a sheer English tulle cathedral -length train embellished with jeweled lace appliques. A bor der of lace encrusted with pearls and iridescent white sequins circled the hem and train. Her headpiece wis an array of beaded satin flower and leaves on a satin headband The poufed-edged illusion attached to the headband cascaded to a fingertip veil. In her right shoe, the bride wore a sixpence placed there by her father. She also carried an heirloom hand kerchief given to her before the cer MR. AND MRS. The ma tron of honor wore a royal blue gown of the same style. Rower girl was Rebecca Marie Phillips of Easton, Pa., niece of the bride. Her goWn of pink satin fea tured satin rosettes on the fitted V bodice. She carried a basket of silk rose petals, which she scattered down the aisle in front of he bride. William Morris of Wilmington served his friend as best man. Groomsmen were Christopher Can non of Shallotte: Jeremy Cron of Ft. Hood. Ring-bearer was Robert Chad wick of Holdcn Beach, nephew of the bride. He carried a pillow of white satin and lace made by Gloria Clark, cousin of the bride. The groom wore a white tuxedo with tails while the groomsmen and ring-bearer wore black tuxedos with pinstriped vests. Organist Gelcne Russ and pianist Karen Stanley provided the music. Beth Zettlemeyer and Peggie York sand "The Wedding Prayer." The bride is a 1989 graduate of Chugiak High School in Chugiak. Alaska. She attended the University of Alaska and UNC-Wilmington anil is currently a nursing student at Brunswick Community College. She works part-time for Well Care Nur sing Services. The groom is a 1988 graduate of West Brunswick High School and Brunswick Community College. He is pursuing a degree in radiology and is currently employed by Big A Auto Parts. The wedding was directed by Linda Varnum of Supply. A reception at the Elks Lodge. Calabash, followed the ceremony. Danctte Simmons of Calabash, cou sin of the bride, attended the guest register. The cake was cut and served by the bride's cousin, Gloria Clark of Anchorage, Alaska. After a brief stay in Myrtle Beach, the couple returned to live at Holdcn Beach. A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at their home. A bridal shower was co-hosted by Melissa and Donna Smith at the l^ockwood Folly Community Cen ter. A Sept. 3 n edding is planned. Brunswick County Schools Staff Working On Anti-Violence Programs Brunswick County schools arc implementing a violence prevention grant awarded by the N.C. Depar ment of Public Instruction, accord ing to Linda Shaddix. Safe Alter natives project coordinator for the local schools system. The grant's five objectives are: ? increasing school bus safety by installing video cameras on all Brunswick County school buses; ? teaching conflict restitution and developing peer mediation programs in all schools Six staffers from schools went to a "training of train ers" to teach the program; ? providing parent education lo support efforts at helping their chil dren. Seven staff attended training to teach the parent education and sup port program in all schools; ? providing "multicultural educa lion and sensitivity programs" in all schools. Staff has developed a pro gram and collected materials lor the schools to implement; ? implementing an alternative to out-of-school suspension pilot pro gram at North Brunswick High School in which parents may choose not to have a student stay at home during suspension. Dupont will he the first site where students will have supervision, work, tutoring, counseling and mentors from Du pont and the school staff. Six staff members also attended a crisis prevention training to learn to teach others how to defuse volatile situations before they erupt and how to safety manage situations if vio lence occurs. Shaddix said.
