She was in the 12-year old solo lyrical jazz division and competed against dancers from across the US. and Ca nada. PREPARATION HELP AVAILABLE August GED Test Dates Set GED lest dates for August have been announced by Brunswick Community College for those who wish to complete their high school education. A GED certificate is considered the equivalent of a high school diploma by a number of employers and schools. All GED tests except writing will be offered at BCC's Main Campus near Supply Tuesday, Aug. 9, 1 p.m., and Tuesday, Aug. 23, 5 p.m. The same group of tests will be available at the Southport campus on North Lord Street Wednesday, Aug. 17, 5 p.m., and at the Leland campus in Leland Industrial Park Wednesday, Aug. 17, 9 a.m. The writing skills test only will be given at the Supply .campus .Mon day, Aug. 1, at 5 p.m. Any GED test, including writing, may be taken at the Southport cam pus Thursday, Aug. 4, at 5 p.m., or at the Leland campus Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 9 a.m. Students may enter a GED class any time at Brunswick Community College. Fire Depart ment is scheduled for Aug. 6 and 7 at Peach tree Equestrian Center on Hickman Road, Calabash. Equestrians will compete for an estimated $3,000 in cash and prizes. Second Lakes Fest Set For Saturday Boiling Spring Lakes will cele brate its second annual Festival of the Lakes on Saturday, July 30, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the fire hall on N.C 87 in Boiling Spring Lakes. Sponsored by the Boiling Spring Lakes Volunteer Fire Department, the rescue squad and the fire and rescue auxiliary, the event is one of the major fund-raising projects of the year. Joan DeBruhl, chairman of the planning committee, said the event will feature outdoor booths selling hot dogs, coffee, cold and hot drinks, as well as games for children and adults, including either a dunk ing or pie-throwing booth. Pork bar becue will be ottered from 11 a.m. until it is sold out. In case of rain, the outdoor games will be moved into the new fire hall where the fire engines are housed. Indoors, in Fire Hall 1, there will be raffles, door prizes, a bake sale, a Chinese auction, craft sale and "oldies and goodies" sale. Boiling Spring Lakes T-shirts and caps will be available. Residents may bring items for sale to the fire hall either Thursday, July 28, from 1-3 p.m., or Friday, July 29, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Clothing will not be accepted. Community College Chiefs Meet At Sunset This Week Presidents from community col leges across North Carolina began converging on Sunset Beach Wed nesday for the summer conference of the North Carolina Association of Community College Presidents at Sea Traii uoir Resort and Con ference Center. Brunswick Community College is hosting the event. On the presidents' agenda are committee meetings, roundtable dis cussions, dinners and receptions and a professional development seminar led by organizing consultant Barbara Hemphill, author of Taming the Paper Tiger.
