Group Of Seven Are Trained For Parent Education Programs Steven Brunswick County Schools suffers have been trained as trainers for parent education and support in the schools as part of a state-funded violence prevention grant. The team will train staff in all Brunswick County schools who par ticipate during the 1994-95 school year. The training was done by the Active Parenting. Inc.. staff, headed by Dr. Michacl Popkin, who created the program. The Brunswick County team was chosen by principals from their schools. Members spent four days learning parenting skills and tech niques. Available to train staff in the schools will be Linda Shaddix, pro ject coordinator for the grant to pre vent violence in Brunswick County schools; Nellie Vamam, Chapter One lead teacher; Sue Chapman, school counselor at Union Elemen tary; Charles Snow, school coun selor at Supply Elementary; Sue Whiteley, school counselor 3t Lincoln Primary; Elizabeth Ward, school counselor at Southport Ele mentary; and Rebecca Harris, class room teacher at Bolivia Elementary. Shaddix said the program helps parents with discipline, communica tion, problem-solving and responsi bility in their children.
