Six Generations Six generations gathered in Atlanta, Ga., for the recent homecom ing of lla Mae Caison of Gause Landing. Shown (back row, from left) are Mrs. Caison; Chad Brice, her great-great grandson; Vir ginia Simpson, her daughter; Jonathan Brice, her great-great great grandson; Debbie Wilson, her great-granddaughter; and Frances Moss, her granddaughter. Mrs. Caison has 14 grandchil dren, 13 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and a great-great-great grandson. She was 88 years old in April and lives at Gause Landing with her husband Henry. They are members of Old Shallotte Baptist Church. PEOPLE IN THE NEWS Williams Wins First Place In Communications From N.C. Association Of Agricultural Aaents Bruce Williams, area specialized agent in turf, has won first place in video/televi sion communi cations from the N.C. Association j of County Agri cultural Agents. The "Plant Doctor" televi sion segment ap pears every WILLIAMS Thursday on WECT-TV in south eastern coastal North and South Carolina. He received first place in the video/televising category for public information communications pro grams in North Carolina as judged an awards committee appointed by the N.C. Association of County Agricultural Agents. A $50 cash award and plaque accompanied the state award during the annual meet ing in Rocky Mount on July 26. He works for the N.C. Cooper ative Extension Service in Bruns wick, New Hanover and Pender counties. His "Plant Doctor" column appears weekly in The Brunswick Beach. Williams and his wife Marsha live in Southport. WILLIAMS Going To Art School Roy C. Mearcs II of South Brunswick High School has been acccpted at Savannah College of Art and Design. The College of Art and Design is ranked in the top ten percent of all college and universities nationwide by Peterson 's Competitive Colleges. Chosen For 'Who's Who' Melissa M. Banks of Supply has been nominated for the 28th annual edition of "Who's Who Among Ameri can High School Stud ents She is the daughter of Pat ricia Banks McMiliian and the late Norman Leonard Banks. As a "Who's Who" student, she will be eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship from SI 25,000 to be awarded this year. "Who's Who" recognizes the achievements of outstanding stu dents. Nominations are received Coastal Musical 'King Mackerel' To Be Performed In Wilmington North Carolina's popular coastal musical, "King Mackerel and the Blues Are Running" will be per formed Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Coastline Convention Center in Wilmington. Causey Completes Ventures Program Mark Causey III of Supply was among students successfully completing the Summer Ven tures in Science and Mathe matics program on the UNC Wilmington campus this summer. CAUSEY He is the son of Buster and Gwen Causey ot Little Macedonia Road, Supply. Summer Ventures is a four-week enrichment program for rising junior and senior high school students with talent and interest in science and mathematics. The program is the largest cost-free one of its kind in the country. It is offered on six campuses of the University of North Carolina and is administered by the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics. Sum mer Ventures students live on the campuses of the host institutions and participate in research-oriented courses designed and taught by uni versity faculty and public school teachers. Students are required to conduct a research project and to report the re sults of their work at the end of the program. About 700 students attend Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics each year and are se lected from an applicant pool of more than 1 .700. Extension To Host Pesticide Applicators' Recertification Meeting The N.C. Cooperative Extension Service will host a meeting of pri vate pesticide applicators on Thurs day, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. in the exten sion office at Bolivia. Farmers and others licensed as private pesticide applicators must be recertified every three years to maintain certification. Those whose licenses expire in 1994 must be re certified before Sept. 30. "Individuals who did not attend a recertification meeting this year should plan to do so," said David L. Nash, agricultural extension agent. Those planning to attend the Sept. IS meeting must pre-register by calling the Brunswick Count Co operative Extension Office at 253 4425. Roberts Charlie and Kelly Roberts of Calabash are the parents of a son, John Warren Roberts, bom Aug. 2 at 5:47 p.m. at The Brunswick Hos pital. He weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 19VS inches long. He joins two siblings, Kenneth and Victoria Trotta. Grandparents are Eva McDowell and Warren McDowell, both of Cal abash. Stanley Frankie and Cindy Stanley of Shallotte have announced the birth of a son, Dustin Lee Stanley. Arriving Aug. 8 at 7:51 p.m. at The Brunswick Hospital, he weighed 9 pounds, 14K ounces and was 21 inchcs long. He has a sister, Meredith Lynn.
