To Wed In October
Phyllis Ann Bischoff of Cedar Grove, Ind., has announced the en
gagement and approaching marriage of her daughter, Lisa J.
Bischoff, to James E. Price of Shallotte, son of Velma W. Price of
Shallotte and the late Ralph L. Price. The bride-elect is also the
daughter of the late Leroy L. Bischoff. She is a graduate of
BrookviUe High School and is front officer manager at the Quality
Inn, Harrison, Ohio. Her fiance is a 1982 graduate of West Bruns
wick High School and is a health physicist employed by Bartlett
Nuclear Inc. of Plymouth, Mass. The two plan an Oct. 8 wedding
at Holy Guardian Angels Church in Cedar Grove.
National Gallery Affiliate
To Conduct Art Lectures
Associated Artists of Southport
will host a scries of eight slide/video
programs on "Painting from the
Renaissance to the 1800s."
Joan Webb, an educational affili
ate of the National Gallery of Art,
Washington, D.C., will conduct the
series beginning Sept. 14. The pro
grams will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday evenings at Franklin
Square Gallery. The public is invited
free of charge.

Rotary Club Members
Help With Buddy Program
South Brunswick Islands Rotary
Club members passed a basket at its
Aug. 12 meeting and raised S465 to
help the Brunswick Buddies pro
gram receive its IRS nonprofit status
and ability to apply for public funds.
Buddies Director Bob Hayes told
the Rotarians the program aims to
match volunteer counselors with
children in trouble and is at its pre
sent capacity of 15 "matches,' the
largest number in the state.
When a visiting Rotarian offered
to match up to $100 of money col
lected at the meeting, the entire sum
was raised.
Helping WHh Shower
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
7288 auxiliarists in Calabash have
set aside $100 to purchase items for
a Sept. 20 shower to benefit the
Duke University Medical Center
Ronald McDonald House.
Auxiliarists also arc participating
in a project to redeem proofs of pur
chase for rebates to help the facility.
Sept. 10 is the post's next visit to
the Veterans Hospital in Fayettevillc
to deliver refreshments and play bin
go with patients. The next meeting
is Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at the post; offi
cers meet at 6.

Four Brunswick Students
Compete Ventures Workshop
hour Brunswick Countians were
among 600 North Carolina high
school students completing the
Summer Ventures in Science and
Mathematics program.
They are Martha Daniels of South
Brunswick High School; and Mark
Causey. Kenneth McGee and Chad
Smith, all of West Brunswick
The program is designed to enrich
high school and university course
work. expanding students' experi
ence in scientific inquiry, mathemat
ical problem-solving and computer
applications.
Students learned about experi
mental design, laboratory skills, in
strumentation, mathematical model
ing, strategies in mathematical prob
lem-solving and exploratory data
analysis.
The program also provides infor
mation about careers in science and
math, social issues related to science
and communication skills for math
and science competitions.
McGee and Smith attended at
East Carolina University. Causey
went to UNC- Wilmington and Dan
iels, to N.C. Central University.

Stephen Jared Benton of Zebulon
has been accepted for the 28th annu
al edition of "Who's Who Among
American High School Students."
Only 5 percent of students from
22,000 high schools are honored in
"Who's Who" each year.
Benton is a senior at Eastern
North Carolina School for the Deaf
in Wilson. He is the son of the Rev.
and Mrs. Kenneth Benton, formerly
of Winnabow.
Coppersmith Enlists
Ronald A. Coppersmith of Win
nabow has enlisted in the U.S. Army
for four years.
The son of William C. and Linda
Bevier of Winnabow, he is a gradu
ate of Hoggard High School in
Wilmington.
He will report for basic training at
Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, in
October. He will later attend training
at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, to be
come a medkal
