Awards Given To Outstanding BCC Graduates Of '94 Seven Brunswick Community College students were recognized at the 14th annual commencement ex ercises. Vice President for Student Development Beth McLean present ed the awards during the ceremony. Jan I. Carlton, an Administrative Office Technology graduate, was given the Brunswick Community College President's Award. Each year the award is given to the stu dent most outstanding in scholastic achievement and leadership quali ties. 5ne was student Uov eminent Association president for the 1993 94 academic year, and a student am bassador. The Outstanding Student Award is given annually to a technical, vo cational and one general education student Selected as Outstanding was (Catherine Victoria Graham, an administrative office technology graduate and a student ambassador. The I ma B. Boyer was selected outstanding vocational student. She was an ambassador and a cosmetol ogy graduate. Mark Rosser Laugisch was named Outstanding General Educ ation Student. The Citizenship Award was pre sented to Dwayne Russell Mitchener Jr. The electronics engineering tech nology graduate was an ambassador. Two nursing awards were also presented. The Steven Allen White Nursing Scholarship was presented to Peggy S. Millwood. It is a $500 cash award and plaque given annu ally to the nursing student who has demonstrated outstanding scholastic achievement, high standards of pro fessionalism and service to the col lege. Sandra Jo Moody received the Esther Swan Fraser Nursing Award, a cash award given annually to a nursing student who has demonstrat ed outstanding scholastic achieve ment and is voted by His; tier peers as having demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities. ? BCC Pins 34 Nurses In Southport Ceremony Twenty-three graduates of Bruns wick Community College's Practical Nursing Program received tbeir nurses' pins in an Aug. 17 ceremony at South port Baptist Qiurch. Two nursing graduates received special honors for their commitment. BCC Vice President for Student Development Beth McLean present ed practical nursing graduate Peggy Sue Millwood with the Steven Allen White Award. The $500 cash award and plaque were established as a memorial tribute to their son by Cart and Anita White. The Esther Swan Fraser $300 award and plaque were presented to nursing graduate Sandy Jo Moody by McLean. The award is given an nually in memory of their sister by Margaret Hood and Marie S. Harris. Each of the graduating nurses re ceived a nursing pin, a nursing postal stamp pin and a flower from tbeir instructors. During the candle lighting segment of the ceremony, each nursing graduate also received a small Florence Nightingale lamp. Each lit their lamp, symbolizing the knowledge and skills learned in the nursing program, from a large cen tral lamp.
