IJTF.RACY COUNCIL OFFICERS make plans for the fifth annual Adult Spelling Bee set for Sept. 22. Adult Spelling Bee Is Sept. 22 The Brunswick County Literacy Council will spon sor its fifth annual Adult Spelling Bee Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. at Brunswick Community College in Supply. Kitty Fitzgibbon of WWAY-TV will he one of the pronounce rs. Last year's winners, John Meyer and Richard Myers of the Wilmington Star-News will be back as spellers. Also returning will be the team of Daphne Yarbrough and Dr. George Saunders, sponsored by The Brunswick Hospital, as well as teams sponsored by Exide Ele ctronics. Southern Bell, The Brunswick Beacon , the State Port Pilot. United Carolina Bank, Brunswick Community College and Security Savings Bank. Town of Long Bcach employees Pat Brunei 1 and Joy Easley are making plans to spell, as are a team of Brunswick Community College students to be spon sored by literacy council volunteer and Calabash Commissioner Teddy Altreuter. Each year the bee focuses attention on the celebra tion of September as "Literacy Month." The sponsor-do nated entry fees of $200 help the council provide free, private tutoring for residents who wish to improve their basic reading and writing skills. 'Alice In Wonderland' Coming To Grace United Methodist Church Grace Playhouse will present "Alice in Wonderland," a children's musical. Aug. 26-28 at Grace United Methodist Church in Wilmington. The Aug. 26 performance will be a dinner theater at 6:30 p.m., with a ticket price of S9 for adults, $6 for children. Aug. 27 and 28 are 3 p.m. mati nees. with SS admission for all. "Alice in Wonderland," adapted for the stage by Charles Turner, was based on the book by Lewis Carroll. It is directed by Marjoric Mcgivem, with music direction by Jay Brooks. Stage managers are Elisa Albanese and Terra Hopkinson. The play is a fundraiser for Grace United Meth odist Church. The cast is headed by Sarah Catherine McPhatter as Alice and Aaron Charles as the White Rabbit. The cast also includes Dane Schuck man. Christy Thcrell, Avinash Sar ma, Joanna Albancse, Spencer Shuckman. Jennah mcKay, Michael McCasland, Jeanie Koff, Joel Fer nando, Rob Ryan, Ian Henderson, Katie Anderson. Lynn Rohler, Ste phanie Christy. Ren Huffman. Jillian Tolliver. Pete Spicer. Matt S us kind and Amy Davis.
