Enter Miss Brunswick Pageant
Organizers of tbe Miss Brunswick County Scholarship Pageant are
seeking contestants for this year'* pageant scheduled foe 8 pm Nov. 5
at Odeil Williamson Auditorium on the Brunswick Community College
campus.
Women eligible to compete must be age 17 to 24 and not turn 25 be
fore October 1995. Contestants also must never have been married or
had children. All contestants' permanent address must be in Brunswick
County.
No entry fee is required. All entries must be received before Oct. 15.
Contestants will be judged in the categories of interview, swhnsuit,
talent and evening wear. The winner receives a Si, 000 scholarship and
will be eligible to compete in the 1995 Miss North Carolina Scholarship
Pageant.

Tutor Training
Set Sept. 16-17
The Brunswick County Uteracy
Council will conduct a tutor training
workshop Friday, Sept. 16, from 6
until 9:30 p.m. and continuing on
Saturday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m. until 4
p.m.
The 10-hour workshop familiar
izes participants with the Laubach
Way to Reading, a phonics-based
method of teaching reading. It will
be held at the literacy council office
in Supply.
The workshop is free, but pre-reg

Medical Service answered 62 calls
during July, Assistant Chief Tom

tors on Aug. 25.
Volunteers worked IKK hours and
traveled 2,24^ miles. Twenty-seven
calls were in Calabash. 13 in Sunset
Beach and 22 elsewhere, of which
nine were mutual aid for Shallottc
and six. for Wacrwriaw
