Robert Ruark Foundation Receives Planning Grant 1 Re Koueri Ruark Foundation has been awarded a $750 grant by the N.C. Humanities Council to plan the 1995 Robert Ruark Festival. The proposed festival, to be held in Southport next summer, will com memorate the literary career of Wil mington native and best-selling writer-journalist Robert C. Ruark, who spent boyhood summers in Southport with his grandparents and used that experience in many of his writings. The council uses federal funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and gifts from pri vate sources. It supports piograms that draw upon history, literature and languages and meets three times a year to review proposals from non profit community organizations and institutions. Bette Leggett, president of the Robert Ruark Foundation and direc tor of the festival, said plans arc for activities in the visual, literary and performing arts. They include a screening of the movie, "Something Stroke Support Group To Meet The next meeting of the Stroke Support Group of Grand Strand Regional Medical Center is sched uled for Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 3:30 p.m. in the hospital's class room. The group is sponsored by the hospital as an educational forum and support group for stroke sufferers and their relatives or caregivers. It is free and open to the public. Meetings take place regularly on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 3:30-5 p.m. The hospital is at 809 82nd Parkway, Myrtle Beach. For more information, call Bob Clancy at (803)249-6134. Home Expo Set For Sept. 17-18 The Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association will sponsor its third Home Expo Sept. 17 and 18 at Trask Coliseum on the UNC- Wilm ington campus. The indoor/outdoor event will feature information about construc tion, remodeling, home decorating, furnishings and financial services. Experts and company representa tives will be on hand to answer questions. Visitors may attend seminars on several topics. At 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, residen tial design coordinators will present a seminar on custom home design to accommodate wheelchairs and peo ple with physical disabilities. At 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, there will be a discussion of styles, values and maintenance of Oriental rugs. At 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, there will be a seminar entitled "Custom Home Design in the 1990s." The show ill be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday.
