The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Donnie Fowler of Ash.
She is a West Brunswick High
School graduate and is employed by
the Department of Aging in White
ville.
The groom is the son of Howell
Strickland of Fair Bluff. He was
graduated from West Columbus
High School and Southeastern Com
munity College and is employed by
United Carolina Bank in Whiteville.
The bride wore a V-neck and V
back gown overlaid with lace and
adorned with sequins and pearls. It
featured long sleeves, dropped
shoulders and a skirt overlaid with
lace and bows with hanging pearls.
She carried a bouquet of roses and
lilies-of-the-valley with pearls.
Maid of honor was the bride's
cousin, Sarah Ward of Shell Point.
She wore a gown of fuchsia Beng
aline with pearls at the neckline,
large bow in back, high-low skirt
and dropped shouldets. She carried
three roses tied with a ribbon.
Bridesmaids were the bride's
aunts, Brenda Ward of Ash and
Sheila Price of Whiteville, and her
COUSui, Bicanu Wdi u of / .Ml. They
wore gowns of fuchsia satin with
high-low skirts, puffed sleeves, large
bows in back and small bows on
their sleeves. Each carried three ros
es tied with ribbons.
Junior bridesmaids were the
bride's cousins, Stephanie and Mea
gan Price of Whiteville. Flower girl
was Jennifer Price of Whiteville, al
so a cousin of the bride. They wore
white satin dresses with lacc and
pearis o? bodices, ruffled sleeves
and skirts with bows in back. The
junior bridesmaids each carried two
roses tied with ribbons.
Best man was Howell Strickland,
the bridegroom's father. Grooms
men were Tony Strickland of Fair
Bluff, brother of the groom; Chris
Fowler of Ash, brother of the bride;
and Shannon Strickland of Fair
Bluff. Ring-bearer was Jonathan
Price of Whiteville, the bride's cou
sin.
A program of wedding music was
provided by Rhonda Benton, pianist
and soloist. Wedding director was
Mary Lois Vereen of Ash. The
bride's cousin, Jimmy Price of
Whiteville, presided over the guest
register, and another cousin, Jeff
Fowler of Ash, handed out pro
grams.
A reception in the church fellow
ship hall followed the ceremony.

Saturday, Sept. 10, in a 7 p.m. dou
ble-ring ceremony at Oak Island
Presbyterian Church, presided over
by the Rev. Richard DePriter of
Fayetteville.
The bride is the daughter of (Jail
S. Hatley of Long Beach and Don
ald R. Porterfield of Marion, S.C.
She holds an associate degree in
dental hygiene from Central Pied
mont Community College and is
employed as a dental hygienist in
Raleigh.
The bridegroom's parents are Mr.
and Mrs. William Boyce Smallwood
of Long Beach. He has a bachelor of
science degree in business adminis
tration and is employed by Thomp
son Dental Company in Raleigh.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a formal white gown
of bridal satin with a Sabrina neck
line and leg-of-mutton sleeves. Ap
pliques of sequins and seed pearls
embellished the gown, along with an
attached chapel train which featured
a large bow at the waist. She carried
a bouquet of white orchids, roses,
stephanotis and ivy.
Matron of honor was Kim Creger
of Troy. Bridesmaids were Monica
Baldwin of North Wilkesboro, Laura
Bame of Charlotte, Paula Kimball of
Winston-Salem and Leigh Walker of
Long Beach.
The bridal attendants wore ice
pink suits with jacket-style tops with
pleated shoulders, square necklines
and pearl buttons leading to fitted
waistlines accented with pink lace
appliques. Fitted calf-length skirts
completed their suits. They earned
bouquets of white orchids, roses and
carnations with ivy and pink stream
ers.
Boyce Small wood served as his
son's best man. Groomsmen were
Ray Small wood, the groom's broth
er, of Long Beach; Ric Porterfield,
the bride's brother, of Long Beach;
Mike Cierpiot of Boiling Spring
Lakes, Corey Winston of Richmond,
Va., Reed Thomas of Hassell and
B.J. Averett of Florence, S.C.
Wedding music was provided by
Greg Walker, pianist and organist;
Cathy Furpless, pianist; and Spencer
and Cynthia Smith, vocalists.
Bridal showers were hosted by
Dean Mason of Supply, Sandra
Mullins of Wilmington and the em
ployees of Dr. John Madison and Dr.
John Ward of Shallotte.
A reception was held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hatley, the
bride's mother and stepfather. After
a week-long wedding trip to Jam
aica, the couple will make their
home in Raleigh.
Skipper-Evans Vows Said
Krisinda Rose Skipper and Adam Ken Evans were married at 4
pjn. Aug. 6 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Their vows were spoken before David Leggett, branch president.
The bride is the daughter of Wycuff and Quintina Skipper of
Stanbury Road. The groom's parents are WaddeU and Wanda
Evans of Exum.
Courses Offered In
Calligraphy
Brunswick Community College's
Community Services Department
will offer courses in calligraphy and
stained glass this fall.
The eight-week calligraphy class
es will begin Sept. 22 and continue
through Nov. 10, with each session
lasting from 6:30 until 9 p.m. The
course will be taught by Catherine
Langsdorf in Room 138 of the BCC
Campus in Southport.
The self-supporting class will cost
$30 per person plus a $15 supply fee.
Two stained glass classes have al
ready begun. The 12-week sessions
are being taught by Ed Simpson at

Buddy Morrow will conduct the
Tommy Dorse y Orchestra in the first
concert of Southeastern Community
College's 1994-95 Performing Arts
Series on Tuesday. Sept. 20.
Connecticut native Morrow has
been a featured musician with the
bands of Tommy Dorsey, Paul
White man, Artie Shaw and Jimmy
Dorsey. He also has been a staff mu
sician with such productions as the
"Tonight Show" and the "Arthur
Godfrey Radio Show."
The modem Tommy Dorsey or
chestra's repertoire includes the
original big band's tunes plus popu
lar music from Dixieland rhythm
and blues and ballads to progressive
jazz and current rock tunes. Some
selections to be performed are "On
the Sunny Side of the Street,"
"Stardust" and "Night Train," which
was recorded by the Buddy Morrow
Orchestra, a group Morrow formed
years ago.
The performance begins at 8 p m
at the Bowers Cultural Arts Center
at Whiteville High School. Admis
sion is by SCC Performing Arts
Series season ticket, which may be
purchased at the door, or by S 10 sin
gle-event ticket.
Season tickets for the eight-event
series are $40 Senior citizens age
65 and older receive a Si discount
on individual event tickets, or $5 off
season ticket prices.
