Aldwin Lance Sidelined
At Appalachian State
(Continued From Page 1)
troversial call in the third quarter
when ASU recovered a fumbled
snap in the end zone for an apparent
touchdown. The officials ruled that
timeout had been called prior to the
fumble.
"They had a lot of breaks. The
one in the end zone was obviously a
fumble and they didn't call it,"
Lance said. "Plus we got ACC refer
ees and they didn't help much."
Appalachian rushed for 174 yards
in the game, something that has
Lance chomping at the bit and eager
to return to the lineup.
"We're a running team. If our
running's on our passing game will
come through," Lance said. "I'm
looking forward to holding the ball a
lot."
For a team that finished 4-4 in ?h?
Southern Conference in 1993, Lance
and his teammates have lofty expec
idliuuS iui iiiiS SCdSOfl.
"Everybody's got the feeling that
we're going to go through the con
ference unbeaten. That's dur feeling
right now," Lance said.
"We're kind of down tonight be
cause we figured we'd come in here
and dominate and win. We dominat
ed, but we didn't win. So every
body's kind of down right now."
Lance said he thinks some of the
stronger Southern Conference
teams, like Marshall and Georgia
Southern, could beat Wake Forest.
"We're kind of upset we didn't
beat them. We were the better team
from the first man to the last man.
We just didn't get the job done," he
said.
The loss will not affect Appalac
hian's conference record or its
chances of qualifying for the Divi
sion 1-AA playoffs. This weekend's
game is more important in terms of
national ranking.
Lance said he's looking forward
to seeing former West Brunswick
teammate Steve Brooks, a freshman
offensive lineman at North Carolina
A&T.
"We picked on him this summer,"
Lance said with a smile. "They're
coming up to the mountains, and
they can't take that thin air. I'm
looking forward to facing him. We
can't face each other on the field,
but team-wise."
