Hope Harbor Home
SeekingVolunteers
Hope Harbor Home, Brunswick County's shelter for
victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, is seek
ing volunteers in the following areas:
? Transporting women and children to parenting
support groups and appointments.
? Providing child care, being called on as needed
during the day at the shelter and during support groups.
? Working at The Hope Chest thrift shop on Holden
Beach Road. Sales associates, merchandise receivers
and stock clerks are needed.
? Picking up and delivering donations to either the
office or The Hope Chest. Especially needed are volun
teers who have pickup trucks.
? Working the crisis line. Volunteers are on call
during the night and weekend to respond to calls from
victims of domestic violence and sexual assault who are
referred by Crisis Line or by the county 911 Center. This
may involve going to the hospital, getting a woman into
the shelter or listening to a woman's situation.
Volunteers usually serve for one week every four to six
weeks.
? Helping at the shelter, organizing storage areas
and assisting in shelter maintenance. Plumbers, carpen
ters, handymen and people with similar skills are espe
cially needed.
? Assisting the legal advocate in providing support
to women who have filed charges against their abusers
or are trying to obtain restraining orders.
? Raising funds in such ways as selling cookbooks
and sweatshirts at local festivals.
