The Trojans won 5-3. West Brunswick will hast the ( ougars Thursday at 4:30 p.m. win. Laney and South Brunswick end ed the fourth quarter tied at 22-22, and the Buccaneers got the ball first in overtime. Quarterback Akaba Glaspie put his team ahead with a 10-yard touchdown run and Franklin Farmer tacked on the extra point. South Rmncwirk rame rieht back with a touchdown drive of its own Quarterback Jeremy Baker scored his second TD of the night on a 6 yard keeper to pull the Cougars to within a point. Instead of forcing a second over time with a PAT, South Brunswick head coach Derrell Force elected to go for the win with a two-point play. However, Laney 's defense gang tackled Baker at the 2-yard line be fore he could pitch the ball to a run ning back. South Brunswick had taken its only lead of the game in the first quarter on Baker's 6-yard touch down run. The Buccaneers blocked the extra point attempt, and went ahead 7-6 on Kenya Hill's 8-yard run and the first of three Farmer PATs. Laney bumped its advantage to 15-6 in the second quarter on Cory Miller's 27-yard run and Fred Freeman's two-point conversion. O.J. Morris scored on a 4-yard run on South Brunswick's first pos session of the second half, and Adam Kaufhold's two-point conver sion run trimmed the Buccaneers' lead to 15-14. Laney stretched its lead back to eight points early in the fourth quar ter on Freeman's I -yard Imirhdnwn dive. But the Cougars forced overtime with 5:50 left in regulation. Baker fired a 14-yard touchdown pass to Devin Johnson, and then ran in for the two-point conversion to tie the score at 22-22. The Cougars fell to 1-3 and will close out their non-conference schedule Friday night at home against Clinton. Laney (2-2) opens Mideastern 4A Conference play this week at Eastern Wayne.
