Trojan Spikers Split With South Brunswick Cougs, South Columbus Stallions West Brunswick High School's volleyball team split a pair of Waccamaw Conference matches last week, heating South Brunswick and losing to South Columbus last Tuesday, junior hitter Michelle l.ong pounded out 34 ser vice points as the host lady Trojans knocked off county rival South Brunswick 15-5. 15-5. 15-17, 15-4 South Columbus got 29 service points from Jamie Bellamy and dc feated West Brunswick 11-15, 15 13. 15-10. 12-15, 15-10. last Thurs day in Shallottc Christy Spivcy added 16 points and Penny Jones had 15 for the lady (iatorv Leading West Bruns wick were Jessica Winfrec with 17 service points, f-'elicia Morgan with 14 and Madonna Cause with 12. "We're still a little inconsistent on our serves," West Brunswick coach Brenda Council said. "If we could gel more consistent with our serves we would be a much better team." The benefit bike-a-thon is expected to raise $360,000 in pledges and contri butions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Fifty members of Calabash Elks Lodge No. 2679 fed the bicyclists, with the help of Sea Trail Corp., the Elks' Ladies Auxiliary and businesses statewide. This is the second year the bike ride has ended at Sunset Beach. THREE RIVERS ROUNDUP North Brunswick Rips Fairmont by nouc; ritter MichacI Edge rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns Friday as North Brunswick defeated visiting Fairmont 33-15 in a Three Rivers Conference high school football game. Quarterback Ryan Brew complet ed five of eight pass attempts for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Andre Moslcy hauled in a 75-yard TD pass, and Shannon Hankins added a 44-yarder. [.amont Southcrlanu rushed for 64 yards and one touchdown as Coach Garry Bishop's Scorpions posted their second straight win and improved to 3- 1 for the season. The conference win was the first for North Brunswick since Sept. 22. 1989, when the Scorpions defeated West Columbus 14-12 as members of the Waccamaw Conference. North Brunswick will travel to Elizabethtown Friday night for a tough conference game against the East Bladen Cougars ? a team that has owned the Scorpions since the mid-KOs. Excluding 1992. when North Brunswick did not field a varsity football team, the Cougars have beaten the Scorpions every year since 1985. That's when the two schools be came members of the same confer ence. North Brunswick and East Bladen were members of the Waccamaw Conference from 1985 until 1992, and both moved to the Three Rivers Conference last year. East Bladen crushed the Scor pions 42-7 last season, in the last eight games the Cougars have out scored North Brunswick 333-38, an average winning margin of 42-5.
