POLICE examine the interior of a 1993 Hyundai that skidded off Thomasboro Road at a high rate of
speed and overturned near Calabash Oct. II. Driver Robert Corbett, 22, of Supply was charged with
driving while impaired by alcohol and careless and reckless driving. He and his wife Regina Corbett,
21, suffered only minor ir\juries and were not transported to the hospital after the wreck, according to
Trooper MA . Moore.
Airborne Car Lands On Pack House
/\ tv-year-old Shallottc area man was charged with
careless and reckless driving and driving left of center
by the N.C. Highway Patrol Saturday after his airborne
1994 Chevrolet came to rest on a pack house off N.C.
904 near Grissettown
Driver William Hickman and his passenger, Eddie
Cain, 19, also of Shallottc. were transported to The
Brunswick Hospital with serious, but nonincapacitating
injuries following the 1 p.m accident 7.5 miles south of
Shallottc
Hickman was traveling cast on N.C. 904 at a high
rate speed, reported Trooper H.R. Smith, when his
Chevy crossed left of center and ran off the road on the
left and struck a ditch. It overturned six times before
striking a second ditch and going airborne and landing
on an old house owned by Mr and Mrs. H Leon Hewett
of Grissettown
The Hcwetts, who live across the road, were using
the house as a pack house and com shed, said Mrs.
Hewett Damage to the building was estimated at $4,500
and to the vehicle, S9.500.

Lemuel McCumbee. 35. of Supply, was traveling
northeast on Sabbath Home Road (S.R 1120) at about
12:05 p.m when an oncoming 1993 Oldsmobilc operat
ed by Donna Dosher. 42. of Supply, crossed the center
line into his lane of travel, reported Sgt A L Midgett of
the N.C Highway Patrol McCumbee swerved his 198N
Chevrolet to the right in an effort to avoid collision and
ran off onto the shoulder of the road The Oldsmobilc
struck McCumbee 's vehicle on the left side. It spun par
tially around and struck a fencc, while the Oldsmobite
ran into a ditch and stopped.
Dosher was charged with driving left of center.
Damage was estimated at $5,500 to the Chevrolet
and S8.500 to the Oldsmobile. Neither McCumbee nor
Dosher was transported for medical treatment.
A driver and his passenger received only minor in
juries last Tuesday night after their 1993 Hyundai skid
ded out of control and rolled over several times.
Robert Corbett. 22, of Supply, was traveling north
on Thomasboro Road (S R. 1165) at a very high rate of
speed when the car skidded out of control on a curve at
about 9:21 p.m., according to Trooper M.A Moore. The
vehicle ran off the road on the left, struck a ditch and
rolled over several times before coming to rest on its
top.
Corbett and his passenger, Regina Corbett, 21, com
plained of minor injuries but were not transported for
treatment.
Corbett was charged with driving while impaired
and carelcss and reckless driving. Damage to the
Hyundai was estimated at Si 2,000.
The N.C. Highway Patrol has identified the victim
of an Oct 11 fatal crash near Calabash as Patricia A.
Mangan. 36, of Calabash.
Trooper H R Smith said Mangan was attempting to
cross U S. 17 from Country Club Drive when her vehi
cle entered the path of a southbound tanker truck. After
impact the car flipped several times and exploded into
flames, killing Mangan and her dog The tanker driver
was treated and released.
No charges were filed.

Penny Goal
Supply Elementary School
reached its goal Friday of amassing
one million pennies to buy play
ground equipment, which means
Principal Carolyn Williams will be
kissing a pig sometime today
(Thursday).
"That's better than sitting on the
roof, which is what I promised to do
last year," she said.
While the goal was exceeded last
week, Williams won't have an exact
count until the pennies are bagged
later this week for the trip to the
bank.
Students and other school sup
porters began collecting pennies last
year for the playground project and
had hoped to meet their goal before
the end of the 1993-94 school year.
In a setback last year a large con
tainer of pennies was stolen from
the school office, but community
supporters rallied to replace the lost
revenue.
