She was bom in Brunswick
County on May 17, 1925, the
daughter of the late Joseph Harold
and Araminta Skipper Child. She
was a member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,
Leland.
Surviving are her husband, Ervin
Elbert Rogers of the home; two
sons, James Hollis and wife Carolyn
and Jared Hollis and wife Deanna of
Leland; a daughter, Janet Baldree
and husband David of Leland; a
stepson, James Rogers and wife
Linda of Wilmington; eight grand
sons, one granddaughter and one
great-grandson; two sisters, Edith
McGowan of Wilmington and
Barbara Ward of Whiteville; and a
brother, John Child of Leland.
Funeral services were held Nov. 3
in the Church of Jesus Christ of Lat
ter Day Saints, Leland, by Bishop
Reginald Brew and elders of the
church. Burial was in the Nelson
Cemetery, Leland.

Ruth Ann Morris Thompson, 58,
of Little River, S.C., died Nov. 1 in
her home.
Bom in Breckenridge County,
Ky., she was a daughter of the late
Herbert and Eudoxia Marr Morris.
She was a secretary and bookkeeper
and had served as administrative as
sistant to the late Bill Kiser of
Winston-Salem She was a member
of First Baptist Church in Little
River and Sand Dollar Square
Dance Club.
Survivors include her husband,
Dalphon J. Thompson; two daugh
ters, E. Melanie Thompson of
Elizabethtown, Ky., and Nancy
Marie Thompson of Charleston; a
son, D. Stephen Thompson of Little
River; two brothers, Ralph Morris of
Elizabethtown and Kenneth Morris
of Cecilia, Ky.; and a granddaughter.
The funeral was held Nov. 4 in
Lakeside Baptist Church with the
Rev. James Mezick, Dr. Harold
Mitchell and the Rev. Dalphon J.

member of Our Lady Star of the Sea
Catholic Church and moved to
Calabash in loss from Vienna. Va.

from the National Institutes of
Health, Bethesda, Md., as a medical
technologist, spending her life in
cancer research.

Marvin Herman Mintz Sr. of

He was born in Delco on Oct. 15,

member of Peace Memorial Baptist
Church and was a U.S. Army veter
an, having served in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Inez Penny Mintz, inl992.
Surviving are his sons, Marvin

Willie E. Millican. 58, died Nov.

Mr. Millican was a native and for
mer resident of Supply and had lived
most of his life in San Antonio,
Texas. He was past master of the
Somerset Masonic Lodge and was
retired from the U.S. Air Force and
civil service.
Survivors include his wife. Dee
Dee Millican; sons John Daniel
Millican, Randall Scott Millican and
Bryan Raye Millican; sisters Norma
D. King and Edna Stroudt; brother

The Rev. Bradley Francis Suggs
of Wilmington died Nov. 5 in New
Hanover Regional Medical Center
He was bom April 3, 1918, in St.
Paul, the son of the late Emmett and
Mattie Hickman Suggs
Rev. Suggs was a member of
Grace Baptist Church, Wilmington.
He was a former business owner in
Fayetteville. Called to the ministry
in 1958, his first church was Caro
lina Beach Community Church. He
graduated from Fruitland Baptist
Bible Institute in Hendersonville. He
pastored at various churches in the
Wilmington area, with his longest
ministry at Town Creek Baptist
Church.
Surviving are his wife, Eva
Blackburn Suggs of the home; two
daughters, Candie Suggs West and
Nancy Suggs Scott, both of Piano,
Texas; four grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille
Suggs of New Jersey and a brother,
Ray Suggs of Fayetteville.

Kenneth A. Wendrich, 62, of
Nashville, Tenn., and an Ocean Isle
Beach property owner, died Nov. 1
at Vanderbilt University Medical
Center from injuries sustained in an
automobile accident.
Mr. Wendrich was executive di
rector of the W.O. Smith/Nashville
Community Music School. A native
of New Haven, Conn., he had lived
in Nashville since 1984. A memorial
service is scheduled for Nov. 17 at
the Blair School of Music recital
hall, 2400 Blakemore Ave.,
Nashville, Tenn.
Mr. Wendrich is survived by his
wife, Carolyn Smith Wendrich of
Nashville; his mother, Myra Wen
drich of Lumberton, Miss.; a son.
Van A. Wendrich of Lebanon,
Conn.; and a daughter, Julie N.
Wendrich of Boston.
A prolific writer of books and ar
ticles on the subject of music train
ing for children, Mr. Wendrich
worked with underprivileged chil
dren who might not otherwise have
access to musical training. Three
weeks ago he was honored with the
W.O. Smith School's Smitty Award,
given annually for service to the
school, where a volunteer faculty of
60 professionals gives music lessons
to more than 240 children for a little
as 50 cents an hour.
Before coming to the W.O. Smith
School in 1984, Mr. Wendrich was
director of the creative arts program
and former dean of the college of
musical arts at Bowling Green
University in Guio.
He had earlier directed the
Neighborhood Music School in New
Haven, and from 1963 to 1970 was
director of the Cooperative Research
Program.
He was associate professor of mu
sic education at Vanderbilt Uni
versity's Peabody College and had
taught music education in Bowling
Green, in Asheville, N.C., and at
Yale University's music department
where he was responsible for the
