Ranger Course Begins Jan. 3
A National Park Service seasonal
law enforcement course begins
Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Southeastern
Community College.
The 10-week program prepares
men and women to be commis
sioned as seasonal park rangers and
to work in national parks throughout
the United States. It is considered an
"essential starting place," said SCC
public iiuormaiiun officer Selena
Rowell, for anyone desiring full
time work with the National Park
Service. Job offers have been re
ceived by more than 90 percent of
program graduates.
Classes will meet Monday through
Friday from 8 a.m. to S p.m. through
March 10, and on three or four week
cuds during the ssrr.c time period.
Applicants must be at least 21
years old by March 10 to be eligible
to enroll and must not have any
felony convictions.
Total cost of the course, including
tuition and textbook, is $385, pay
able on Jan. 3.
At the end of the course, a week
long fire training option will be of
fered. The additional training \vi!!
prepare trainees for fire fighter certi
fication. This "red card" is required
for some park ranger jobs, particu
larly in the western and northwest
ern United States.
