A&T State University presents the rvsx ' I award annually STANELY to an extension employee who de votes 50 percent or more of their time to helping "limited-resource citizens." Dr. Dalton McAfee, interim asso ciate dean of A&T's Cooperative Extension Program, said, "After re viewing her 16 outstanding years of service to people in her community and in her county. 1 can fuly under stand how Pearl Stanley has lived up to her name. In the Gospel of St. Matthew. Chapter 13, Verse 46, there is passage about a pearl of great price, that once you find such a gem, you must forsake all you own to honor it. Well, we don't know if we can forsake all we own to honor Pearl Stanley tonight, but we can start with the R.E. Jones Award." McAfee praised Stanley's "tire less work in helping young mothers climb from the pit of welfare, for teaching at-risk youth the value ? both monetary and spiritual ? of hard work, for giving senior citizens food and safety knowledge that will heighten the quality of their lives." Stanley, a native of Morvin, earned a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1969 and a master's degree in clothing and textiles in 1977 from N.C. Central University. She lives in Shallottc with her husb hand Elroy. They have a son. Elroy Jr. During her years as a Cooperative Extension agent, Stanley has helped senior citizens lower their health care costs, helped families increase their resources and helped rural citi zens in the Northwest Community create their own town. She also taught at-risk youth how to make and sell crafts and clothing for extra income and helped welfare mothers turn their employment skills into paying jobs. The R.E.
