Brierwood Tourney
The team of Nancy Bouldin, Sally
Dye, Edith Wilckens and Elizabeth
Carter shot pveti-nar 72 to win the
Brierwood Ladies Golf Associa
tion's season-ending tournament last
Saturday.
Three teams tied for second place
in the captain's choice event with
rounds of 73. They were Hilda Hall.
True Schmaler and Mary Nicol; Ann
Causer, Pat Wolff, June Cleasby and
Evelyn Wuthrich; and Rose Reiter,
Cathy Clemmons, Alice Micali and
Wyarian Taylor.
Finishing third with 74 was the
foursome of Sara McCullough, Ellie
Scutt, Marge Harper and Dot Frey.
At the fall luncheon following the
tournament, it was announced that
Louise Blizard was the Brierwood
winner of the North Carolina State
Play Day Champion. The game was
played May 3, and the winning
score was net 60.
In the group's regular weekly
tournament last Tuesday, Doris Dun
fee fired net 26 to lead the top flight.
Golfers counted scores on par 3s
and par Ss only. Runners-up in
Right A were Urn Bcato with 28.5
and Joanna I-ang and Ann Causer
with scores of 30.5.

Men's Golf Association tournament
Nov. 14.
Teams counted the two best balls
on par 4s and Ss and the three best
balls on par 3s. The winners were 22
under par.
Finishing second at 20-under-par
136 was the foursome of Mike
Prokop, Paul Dunfec. Rick Rickbcil
and A1 Hierman.
Sea Trail Men
Steve Freitas and Guy Moulton
finished at plus 3 points to win the A
Right in the Sea Trail Men's Golf
Association tournament last Tues
day.
Finishing second at even was the

Jim Jones and Ken Harris placed

Jim Jones had the overall low
gross with 82, and Ken Harris post

Ladybird League
Fifty-five golfers representing
eight local clubs participated in the
Ladybird Ixague tournament Oct.
31 at Olde Fort Golf Course.
In the championship flight, Dor
aleen Joyner led the way with gross
78 and was followed by Bronza
Kiger with 79. Both were playing
their home course.
Florence Green of Oak Island had
the championship flight's low net of
68 and Joanna Lang of Brierwood
had 71. Nancy Bouldin of Brier
wood had low putts.
First flight winners included Claire
Aston of Brierwood and Bobbie
Davis of Fox Squirrel with gross
scores of 84. Lois Bcato of Brier
wood was second with gross 89.
Lib Brooks of Oak Island and
Jody Cole of Fox Squirrel tied for
low net with rounds of 72, and Ann
Silva of Olde Fort finished second
with 73. Tied for low putts were
Judy Collins of Fox Squirrel, Irene
Bryant of Brierwood and Frankie
Dawson of Oak Island.
Charlotte Lakey of Brick Landing
Tired gross 83 to lead the second
flight, and Megan Carmichael of
Fox Squirrel placed second with 91.
Sue Guido of Olde Fort had the low
net of 69, followed by Bev Burken
shaw of Olde Fort and Hclene Baker
of Brierwood with rounds of 70.
Helen Brady of Sandpiper Bay and
jdtid Eberiy of Oioe Fort tied for
low putts.
Top finishers in the third flight
were Nancy Bumette of Oak Island
with low gross and Pierrette
Tompkins of Brierwood with low
net. Runners-up were Lee Vernon of
Sandpiper in the gross division and
Marge Reekes of Sandpiper in the
net division. Sarah Balk of Olde
Fort had low putts.
Fran Smith of Olde Fort and Joan
Van Noordt of Oak Island tied for
low gross in the fourth flight and
Brierwood's Emily Laughlin was
sccond. Fifi DeFraine of Sandpiper
had the low net, followed by Dot
Shay of Sandpiper. Jane Boyce of
Fox Squirrel and Elizabeth Carter
and Marion Corbin, both of Brier
wood, tied for low putts.

Clearing Way For Garden
Approximately 40 members of Camp United Methodist Church turned out Saturday for an outdoor/in
door work party. Their first priority was clearing a site overlooking the Shallotte River where the Long
Bay Garden Club will build a garden in memory of Amy Frink, the 18-year-old daughter of Barry and
Birdie Frink of Shallotte who was brutally slain June 23 in Horry County , S.C. No arrests have been
made in the murder case.

Golf Management Degree
Coastal Carolina University in
Conway, S.C., will offer a new co
operative golf management program
to begin in the spring.
The S.C. Commission on Higher
Education approved the program
this month.
Offered through the E. Craig Wall
School of Bus. Administration and
Computer Science, the program will
prepare students for careers in the
golf industry. Students will receive
an undergraduate degree in business
administration with a major in mar
keting, with complementary training
under a PGA "Class A" professional.

Great Britain and Canada have en
rolled for the spring 1995 semester.
The program will be limited to 200
students to be phased in over several
years.
The four-year program will incor
porate 129 hours of course instruc
tion with three six-month intern
ships. The curriculum also includes
weekly seminars and several courses
offered in conjunction with Horry
Georgetown Technical College.
Only five other institutions in the
country offer similar programs, said
Peter Barr, dean of the business
school. They are Ferris State
University, Methodist College,
Mississippi State, New Mexico State
and Pennsylvania State.
