Barometer Markers Show Gains

August of 12.6 percent, but was still
more than twice the statewide unem
ployment rate of 5.1 percent

Saks Rise Steadily
Retain sales in Brunswick County
are rising steadily overall, according
to the barometer. From adjust ed
sales of $107. 2 million in second
quarter of 1993, sales rose to Si 18.5
million in the first quarter of 1994,
and then to Si 20.7 during the sec
ond quaiici.
Overall county retail sales
climbed 13.3 percent over the year,
but they fell 5 percent between May
and June 1994.
