Maternity Program Adds Classes
New Hanover Regional Medical
Center's maternity fitness program,
"Motherwell," has added classes.
Beginning in December, partici
pants may attend either on Mondays
and Wednesdays, 10-11 a.m. in The
Oaks gym, or Tuesdays and
Thursdays, 7-8 p.m. in the physical
therapy gym in the Medical Mall.
"Motherwell" is an exercise pro
gram for pregnant women and new
mothers. It provides exercises to im
prove muscle tone, endurance and
tolerance in areas affected by preg
nancy; reduce pregnancy-induced
lower back pain; relieve minor dis
comforts of pregnancy; support easi
er labor and delivery; lessen the
chance of dietary restrictions during
pregnancy and help participants re
gain pre-pregnancy shape.
Participants are encouraged to
perform at their own rate for com
fort and tolerance. They are encour
aged to follow the program through
out pregnancy and 12 weeks after
birth.
The program is sponsored by
NHRMC's Women's Education
Center and follows guidelines estab
lished by the American College of
Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Instructors are trained and certified
in maternity fitness.

Hospice Announces Land Gift,
Area Leadership For Fund Drive
In its effort to build the area's first
inpatient facility for hospice pa
tients, Lower Cape Fear Hospice has
received a gift of land from the
Cameron family of Wilmington and
has enlisted area civic leader Wendy
Block to head a fundraising drive to
build the home
The announcements came Friday
night al the Festival of Trees Pre
view Party. The Festival of Trees is
an annual fundraising event for Lx>

When the gift of land is complet
ed in 1W5. it will total almost seven
acres with an appraised value of

Wilmington developers Dan and
Bruce Cameron and their families, is
at the Wilmington Medical Park off
Canterwood Drive. It will be the site
of Lower Cape Fear Hospice's
planned inpatient facility, the first in
eastern North Carolina. The facility
will offer a homelike setting for
Hospice patients needing service be
tween home and hospital care.
"Lower Cape Fear llospicc has
been planning this much-needed ser
vice for several years," said Eloi.sc

"The inpatient facility will enable
our staff to serve the region's termi
nally ill requiring more than home
care when hospitalization is not nec
essary."
