Bolivia Plans
First Parade
The first Bolivia Christmas Pa
rade is scheduled for Saturday,
Dec. 10, beginning at 11 a.m.,
sponsored by the Bolivia Volun
teer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Following the parade, Santa
will be at the firehouse handing
out goodies to the children.
Representatives of the Brunswick
County Sheriff's Department will
be there for the child identifica
tion program.

'What Is
The South?'
Lecture Topic
John Shclton Reed, scholar of the
American South, will present the
program "Just What is the South
Anyway?" as part of the "Bit of His
tory" lecture series at Cape Fear
Museum in Wilmington.
Rccd will use maps and graphs to
figure out where "The South" is and
what is "southern" on Friday, Dec
9. at 11 a.m. The program is free and
open to the public

Reed is author of several books
on the South, including Whistling
Dixie Dispatches from the South,
Southern Folk Plain and Fancy and

Regional Culture. He is Kenan pro
fessor of sociology, director of the
Institute for Research in Social
Science and founding director of the
Center for the Study of the Amer
ican South at UNC-Chapcl Mill

A book-signing will follow the

available in the museum's shop.
The museum is at HI 4 Market St.,
downtown Wilmington. It is open
Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to
5pm Admission is S2 for adults
and $1 for children, college students
with valid ID and senior citizens f>5
and older. Children under 5 and
members of the Cape Fear Museum
Associates arc admitted free. Free
days arc the first day of each month
