New Tree Trimming To Be Held
By VFW Post 7288 December 7
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
7288 and auxiliaries will trim their
Christmas tree a little different this
year on Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. at the post.
A small cluster of poppies with a
name tag attached will be placed on
the tree by each member on behalf
of a loved one. Each will include a
donation to go into the post relief
fund.
Also on Dec. 1. the auxiliarists
will fill ditty bags with toilet articles
to deliver to the Veterans Admini
stration Hospital on Dec. 10 along
with cupcakes and refreshments.
Fruit and cupcakes will be
brought to The Cove rest home in
Shallotte on Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.
The next meeting is Monday,
Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.. 6 p.m. for offi
cers. The group will pack Christmas
food boxes for the needy following a
brief business session.
NARFEToMeet
Intracoastal Chapter 2266 of the
National Association of Retired
Federal Employees will meet Dec.
10 at 11:30 a.m. at DCrbster's Rest
aurant in Calabash.
A luncheon will follow a brief
business meeting.
Drawing will take place for a
Christmas gin basket.
Ladies' Party
The Brierwood Ladies Club will
hold its annual Christmas party on
Friday, Dec. 9, in the Brierwood
Clubhouse.
The southern country buffet din
ner and dance will begin with copk
tails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7.

AARP To Meet
American Association of Retired
Persons (AARP), Calabash Chapter
3640, will meet Dec. 1 in the
Calabash Firehouse on Persimmon
Road.
The evening will begin with a
covered dish supper at 6:30. A short
business meeting will follow.
Entertaining will be the Harmony
Show Choir from West Brunswick
High School, directed by Pattic Jor
dan.
Members will bring non-perish
able foods for four baskets to be dis
tributed to needy families. Each
member also will bring a toy for a
young child and will specify
whether the gift is for a girl or boy
and the age range, said Tony

Stroke Group
Meeting Changes
The Stroke Support Group, which
previously met the fourth Wednes
day of each month at Grand Strand
Regional Medical Center in Myrtle
Beach, S.C., has changed its meet
ing place, date and time.
Meetings will now take place
every Wednesday at 10 a.m. at
Briarcliffe Mall in the food court.
The Stroke Support Group is in
tended to serve as an educational fo
rum and support group both for those
who have suffered a stroke and those
who are relatives of and/or caretak
ers of stroke patients. Participation is
free and open to the public.

The Jet Set senior adults' group
will meet at Kirby's Sizzlin Sirloin
Stcakhousc in Shallotte for its
Christmas party Monday, Dec. 5, at
5:30 p.m.

The Jet Set will not have their
regular meeting scheduled for noon

Oak Island Christmas By The Sea
Tour Is Sunday
The Oak Island Beautification
Club will sponsor its eighth annual
Christmas by the Sea Tour of Homes
on Oak Island on Sunday, Dec. 4,
from 1-5 p.m.
Tickets are $5 and may be pur
chased in advance at the Southport
Oak Island Chamber of Commerce
office on Long Beach Road or at
various businesses. Tickets will be
sold the day of the tour at the Long
Beach Recreation Center.
Houses to be featured in the
1994 tour are:
? William and Nancy Burnett,
407 Caswell Beach Road, Caswell
Beach. Designed by William Bur
nett, a retired construction contrac
tor, the house features an unusual
fireplace and third level with view
of marsh, ocean and mouth of the
Cape Fear River.
? Harnam and Sheila Sisodia,
115 Ocean Greens Lane, Caswell
Beach. The home reflects their
Indian heritage with silk paintings
on display including two pieces dat
ing back to the 1600s and scult
pures. paintings and collections
from all over the world.
? George and Eleanor Herndon,
712 Alyssum Ave., Caswell Beach.
Their Louisisana low-country home
in The Arboretum features an an
tique brick fireplace and has an at
tached gazebo overlooking the
marsh and waterway.

Kings Lynn, Long Beach. The
Spivey home is on the west end of
Oak Island with views of ocean and
sound. On display will be a porce
lain Santa collection and numerous
animal paintings and a large collec
tion of homemade Christmas
wreaths.

The home was designed by Billy
Carter and shows how design to ac
commodate a disabled person can be
beautiful and functional. The
kitchen features "four work stations,
four ovens and eight burners ? four
gas, four electric.

older home, renovated as the fami
ly's Oak Island retreat, features view
across Lockwood Folly Sound and
the Intracoastal Waterway. Artwork
and pottery throughout the house are
