Blair Milligan Earns Peace Award
Blair Bennett Milligan of Ash has
received the Girl's State
Recognition Award to attend Peace
College for the academic year 1995
96.
The Girl's State Recognition
Award, valued at $1,500 per year,
recognizes students for their high
school academic record and leader
ship in school and community. The
scholarship is renewable for each
year the student attends Peace and
maintains good academic standing.
Milligan, a student at West
Brunswick High School, is the
daughter of Cray and Wendy
Milligan of Ash.
Peace College in Raleigh is a
two-year liberal arts and sciences
college for women.

Ricky C. Sale of Calabash, a

Battalion (Mechanized) 120th Infan
try in Shallotte, was promoted to the
rank of Private E2 on Dec. 4 by
Capt. Randy K. Pace, the unit com
mander.
PV2 Sale has been a member of
the military for one year with 10
months in this unit.
In civilian life, he is employed by

at Roland Grise Elementary School
in Wilmington.
She was first runner-up in the
Tiny Tot division of beauty and won
the most photogenic award.
Deployment Over
Two local sailors recently re
turned from a six-month deployment
to the Mediterranean and Adriatic
seas and Persian Gulf with the air
craft carrier USS George Washing
ton, the lead ship of the USS George
Washington Task Group.
They are Navy Airman Appren
tice Daniel H. Johnson, son of
William L. and Deloise Johnson of
Shallotte, and Navy Petty Officer
2nd Class Donald W. Hair, son of
Johnny R. Hair Sr. of Leland.
lohnson is a 199"' graduate of West
Brunswick High School. Hair is a
1985 graduate of North Brunswick
High School.
' They were among 5,000 sailors
and Marines who completed the
51,000-mile voyage, which included
duty off Bosnia-Herzegovina in the
Adriatic Sea, and enforcing the "no
fly zone" over southern Iraq. They
traveled twice from the Mediter
ranean Sea through the Suez Canal
and Red Sea, then across the Indian
Ocean into the Persian Gulf.
Their deployment began with par
ticipation in the 50th anniversary of
D-Day commemoration with visits
to England and France. They also
visited Greece, Israel, Turkey and
the United Arab Emirates during the
trip.
Wyiey Decorated
Army Spec. Manuel L. Wyley has
been decorated with the Army
Achievement Medal, which is
awarded to soldiers for meritorious
service, acts of courage or other out
standing accomplishments.
Wyley, an infantryman, is the son
of Lois A. Bell and grandson of
Mary R. Wyley, both of Bolivia.
The specialist is a 1987 graduate
of South Brunswick High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Steven W.
Prince recently completed U.S.
Navy basic training at Recruit
Training Command, Great Lakes,

Prince is a 1994 graduate of
South Brunswick High School and
is the son of Robert E. and Nina M.
Prince of Southport.
During the eight-week program,
he completed a variety of training
which included classroom study,
practical hands-on instruction and an
emphasis on physical fitness. He
learned naval customs, first aid, fire
fighting, water safety and survival
and a variety of safety skills re
quired for working around ships and
aircraft.
Earns Divinity Degree
The Rev. Jeff Crabtree, formerly
of Holden Beach, has been awarded
his doctor of divinity degree from
Emmanuel Baptist University,
Connelly Springs.
Crabtree is pastor of Brookwood
Baptist Church in Morganton. He is
the son of Richard and Jackie Crab
tree of Holden Beach and is a gradu
ate of West Brunswick High School.
