FIREMEN’S ASSOC. MEETING RESCHEDULED ; The meeting of the Pamlico County Firemen’s Association originally scheduled for Thurs ilay, April 18, has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 25. It will be held at Jrlangle VFD and will start at 7:30 pm. Rescue At one time, Beeman explained, the rescue squad asked doctors in New Bern to call and request squad transport for patients who couldn’t (>e moved in other ways. Perhaps the ?quad could require a written Referral from a patient’s physician before transporting, he said. < Beeman emphasized that the rescue squad had no complaints about transporting a patient who could really travel no other way and that most of these patients provided Adequate advance notice. But Beeman recounted one call. “It (Same in as an emergency,” he said. Beeman said he went on the call and (then he arrived, it wasn’t an emergency. “They said they didn’t Want grandpa to get wet.” Grandpa was waiting at the door, packed, and the family followed the squad to the Hospital. Other squad members can riecall similar situations. I The rescue squad is also called upon to transport women in labor, Beeman said. This is not normally ^n emergency situation, he ex plained, since most expectant Brothers have more than enough t|me to reach the hospital once labor t^egins-“and they’ve had nine months to prepare.” It is usually Known beforehand if the pregnancy Will be a problem, he added, and derangements can be made early for those situations. There have even tpeen times in the early morning Hours when the squad has been tpked to transport a woman in labor tjecause the family car didn’t have enough gas and there were no stations open. The purpose of the hearing is to allow citizen input and com ment on the 1985-86 Aging Plan before it is finalized and sub mittd to the state.
