(Billy) Crawford of West Point, is at home to spend . the summer vacation with his mother, Mrs. I R. Crawford. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Jordan had as guests on Sunday: Mrs. J. H. Brown, of Paris, 111.; Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Winslow, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wins low and son, Jarvis, all of Belvidere; Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Winslow and little daughter, Lois, of Bagley Swamp. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Nachman had as dinner guests on Sunday night Mr. and Mrs- W. A. Hoggard, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Hoggard, of Aulander, and Mrs. Smith, of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Thomas Nixon, Mrs. Walter H. Oakey, Jr., and her two little daughters, Dorothy Gordon and Mol lie, returned Sunday night from a stay at Nags Head. Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Hoffler and their little son, of Hampton, Va., were recent guests of Mr. Hoffler's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W- E. Hoffler. Louis Nachman, Jr., and Fred Worrell, of High Point, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Nachman. Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Johnson left Tuesday for Sanford, where they will visit Mrs. Johnson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Edwards. Mr. Johnson ex pects to return to Hertford the latter part of this week Mrs. Johnson will Temain in Sanford for a longer visit. Miss Joyce Stokes entertained a "house party over the week-end at her home in Hertford, her guests includ ing Miss Louise Perry and Cyrus Edson, W. H. Brown and A. W. Fai jon, all of Rocky Mount. Mrs. T. G. Hurt and children will return Friday from Goldsboro, where they have been visiting relatives. Jess Lee Harris has returned from a trip to Wake Forest. ' 1 Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hudson and .their daughter, Miss Mary Tudor Hudson, and Miss Lou Fentress, all of Norfolk, Va., who have been spend in some time at Nags Head, are miests of Mrs. T. F. Winslow and Miss Mae Wood Winslow. Mrs. Clinton Morgan and her four children, of Chicago, arrived Friday to visit Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Morgan The two families are spending this week at Nags Head. J. A. Perry, who has been quite sick, is improving. Mrs. Lloyd Horton, of Plymouth, is -visitinir her parents, Mr. and Mrs Thomas Nixon. Mrs. B. F. Ainsley's mother, Mrs. A. W. West, and her sister, Mrs. R. C. Hudson, of Columbia, were week end guests of Mrs. Ainsley. Miss Annie Rooney Pemberton has Teturnerl to her home at Fayette Tille, after a few days' visit with her sister, Mrs. H. G. Winslow. Mrs. B. W. Thach has returned from Norfolk, Va., where she spent a week visiting her daughter, Mrs. L. G. Mann. Mrs. Thomas Sutton is attending summer school at E. C. T. C, Green ville. Miss Katherine Winslow returned 'Sunday from Fayetteville, where she visited relatives for two weeks. . Mr and Mrs. W. C. Hunter and their 'daughter, Miss Lucy Hunter, spent Sunday at Farmville and Rocky Mount. Mrs. J. O. White, Sr., who has been receiving treatment at a Norfolk, Va.. hospital, returned to her home near Hertford last week. Her condition is much improved. CHAPANOKE NEWS The Woman's Missionary Society of Oak Grove Church will meet Wed' nesday afternoon with Miss Gerrie Griffin. Miss Emma Deal and Wilma Cope land are visiting Mrs. Bessie White near Weeksville. Miss Gladys Stallings of 'Elizabeth City is visiting Shirley Perry for several days. Mrs. Eula Perry is visiting Mrs. Pat Harmond at Candor. She will also go to Washington, D .C, before returning home. Mrs. 0. L. Byrum has returned from a visit to relatives at Ports mouth, Va. Miss Geneva Ownley is visiting her sister, Mrs. E. C. Spruill, in Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Deal were in Elizabeth City Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Perry of New Hope and Mr. and Mrs. George Alex ander motored to Washington, N. C. Sunday, where they visited friends. Mr. and Mrs. George Alexander and daughter, Mattie Meade, spent Saturday in Elizabeth City. Children's Day exercises were held at Oak Grove Sunday night at 8 o'clock. The program was very good and quite a large crowd was present. Mrs. Bertha Whitehead and Miss Allie Whitehead are spending the week in Raleigh visiting friends. Walton Whitehead spent Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Bertha White head. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Quincy have returned from Durham after spend ing several days with friends. A large crowd from here attended the funeral services of MrSjWill Newbold Friday afternoon. Rev. 0. Long returned home last Friday after several weeks in a Richmond hospital. His friends will be glad to know he is improving. T. A. Long of Washington, D. C, visited his father, T. J. Long, last week. Miss Lossie Griffin of Castalia re turned home Sunday after an ex tended visit with her brother, M. T. Griffin and Mrs. Griffin. Has Interesting Meeting The Woman's Missionary Union, of Whiteville Grove Church met Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Tom Ward. Mrs. W. T. Smith gave the Scripture, John, 12th chapter. The topic for the month was "Lifting; the Banner in the Land of the Southern Cross." Those taking part in the program were: "Comparing the Americans,'' Anna Forbes and Vivian Maude Chappell; "Thirty Years in Argentina," Mrs. W. T. Smith; "South American Indians'," Mrs. Maude Chappell. Mrs. T. P. Layden dismissed the meeting. During the social hour, the hostess served deli cious ice cream and cake. The mothers themselves discovered all sorts of forgotten talents, and picked up lots of new ones." Book Club Holds Last Meeting: Of Summer Miss Kate Blanchard and Mrs. C. R. Holmes were joint hostesses at the home of the latter to the mem bers oi the Book Club on Tuesday morning, at the last meeting of the club which will be held until Sep tember. Various items of business were discussed and a list of the books purchased for the next year was read by the committee. There was no program at this meeting. A delicious ice course was served.
