C a MEETS 1 The Woman's Society' of Christian Service of the Methodist Church met Monday, January 5, in the Educational Building of the church. Mrs. L. C. Winslow, secretary of Spiritual Life of the society, gave the devotional, based on the society's theme for the year, "Make Thy Way Known Upon Earth in Me." Mrs. Lawrence Towe, vice president of the society, and Miss Ruth Elliott had the program, "Re dedication of the Methodist Woman to Her Christian Work." Mrs. C. 0. Fowler gave the president's- message,' "The New Year in the Society," and presided over the business meeting. Miss Kate Blanch ard, treasurer, presented the 1948 budget with its ? resolutions, which were unanimously adopted. ' Mrs. El ton Hurdle, promotion secretary, gave the annual report' which was the largest in finance and achievement in the history of the society. All goals were met, thanks to the loyal work of the board " and support" of the mem bers. . , The new goal for 1948 was pre sented and outlined and plans were made for Officers Training Day on January 15. CIRCLE NO. 4 MEETS Circle No. 4 of the Woman's Mis sionary Society of the Baptist Church met Monday night at the church. Mrs. T. E. Madre presided over the business meeting. Mrs. Mark Greg ory offered a prayer. There were six members present and one visitor. The meeting was closed with the evening prayer. From Wilmington Mrs. L. M. Elliott of Wilmington, N. C, was a recent guest of her sis ter, Mrs. Jack Hendricks. From New York -' Mrs. .George J. Beck, Jr., and son of Amityville,' N. Y., are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. ' Mark Gregory1. Mr. Beck" spent the holidays, but has re turned home. Holiday Guests Miss Myrtle A. Reed, a student nurse at Leigh Memorial Hospital, Norfolk, and Bill C. Reed and family of Elizabeth City spent the Christ mas holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Reed of Hertford Route 2. Recent Guests Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Holland and daughters, Elsie and Violet, of Suf folk, were the recent guests of S. E. Elmore and family. From Norfolk Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Harrell and Jim Hendricks of Norfolk, SSgt. and Mrs. Bailey and baby from Rocky Mount, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Keaton, Jr., from Livingston, N. J., spent the Christmas holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hendricks. Christnreg Day Guests In the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Nixon were all their children and grandchildren and Miss Ellen Cnnp. land. Mrs. Nixon was very happy to have all her children together on an other Christmas day. , ENTERTAINS BRIDGE CLUB Mrs. T. L. Jessup entertained her bridge club last Tuesday evening at her home on Front Street Those playing were Mesdames H. C. Stokes, C. R. Holmes, , W. G. Barbee, W. J. Kanoy, C. M. Williford, Miss Helen Morgan and Miss Mary Sumner. The high score prize went to Mrs. Kanoy and the second high was awarded Mrs. Barbee. A salad course was served. METHODIST CHURCH MEETING i ; The Board of Education of tha Methodist Church met with the pas tor, the Rev. D. L. Fouts, Tuesday, January 6th, for reorganization in the nnal phase of the Crusade for Christ which is the expansion of the Church School. ' , I. C. Yagel was elected chairman. Mrs.. Charles Skinner vice .chairman and Mrs. C. O. Fowler secretary. ; Ground, work was laid under the able supervision of Mr. Fouts for the Town of Hertford to be joined and teams formed for visitation to build up the Church School enrollment. TV challenge to work for the young people, shut-ins as well as entire families was accepted with enthusi asm. . i : NEW TEAR'S EVE PARTY Leon Harrell was host to members of the Young People's Sunday School Class of the Burgess Baptist Church at his home near Burgess on New Year's night ' The ' living room was tastefully decorated with evergreen and candles.
