Average Weekly Wages $40.95 Reported For . - Period " The fourth, quarter of 1947 brought employment levels in the State to a ' height; never before reached as re flected by reports to the Employment Security Commission by ' establish ments operating under the Employ ment Security Law; Chairman Henry E. Kendall reports. The average for the three months was 649,410 accord ing to reports tabulated by the Re search and Statistics division of the f Employment , - Security Commission, December reaching a total of 654,463. This is 20,000 more than the total non-agricultural labor force in the State in the year 1940, and the av erage for the three months is 64,500 above the average for the year 1946. Nearly 300 more establishments reported In the fourth quarter than , in the third, representing new firms entering business in the State. . While .these contributed to the increase in employment, there was a tremendous v increase in the employment of exist ing firms in nearly all types of in dustry, the greatest increase being ' in manufacture and retail trade. Ap- proximately $346,000,000 in wages was paid to these workers during the , fourth quarter and the average week ly wage was $40.95 as compared to 137.81 during the third quarter. ' The above figures on employment do not include persons employed in agriculture, domestic service, govern ment service, charitable and other 1 non-profit organizations or self em ployment. ROOK. This ordinance shall take effect, thirty days after its first publication unless in the meantime a petition for its submission to the vot ers is filed under the Municipal Finance Act, 1921, and in such event it shall take effect when approved by the voters at an election as provided in such act. "A recent Council study of hospitalized home accident cases showed that the largest single cause of injuries, other than poor judgement, was disorder. In fact, disorder was responsible for putting one out of every five accident victims In the hospital. Section 3. That the Town Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to make application to the Local Govern ment Commission for approval of is suance of the aforesaid bonds as well as the notes herein authorized and te advertise and sell said notes. Section 4.
