For a number of years they have pursued the paths of earning, picking up information and" experience through various school years, and now, at last, they receive their diplo mas and step into- the world of grown ups. ' They will find it vastly different from the environment in which they have been nurtured. There will be no assignment of particular tasks, with success surely crowning the efforts of those who think and do well. In life, unlike in school, meritorious per- foramnce k not always crowned with success and laurels. , . , - . The high school of Perquimans County is graduating a fine crop of young men and women. : Many of them will continue their education at college but some will not have that privilege. They wall go forth imme diately to seek their economic for tunes, in business endeavor, battling the various forces that operate in the struggle for profits. Those of our graduates who have the opportunity of attending college are fortunate only if they make use of the additional education advant ages that come to them. Certainly the training that college life affords is worth what it costs, in time and money, but these benefits do not flow automatically into the being of the student. They must be earned. The graduates who have no chance to continue their studies in colleges or special schools need not accept any inferiority complex in regard to their classmates who study longer. While it is not to be denied that some ad vantage accrues to college-trained in dividuals, this is not conclusive in the struggle that engages adults in the fullness of their existence. The Weekly wishes to congratulate the students of our high school who complete their courses this year and, at the same time to extend felicita tions to those of this county who complete their college careers. May ali of them play the game of life fairly, earning just rewards and re joicing in the similar success of their fellowmen. Autos Continue Scarce There are enough orders on the books of automobile makers to keep their plants going for two years, with a demand for new cars greater than when the war ended. This is the conclusion of M. E. Coyle, vice presi dent of the General Motors Corpora tion, who points out that the public is bidding from $800 in the low-priced 9iei&, jGzSt&sg, Surface! '" He points out that used cars, of re cent vintage, are selling, above the recommended 1948 new car prices. Mr. Coyle admits that the automo bile industry is not accustomed to such conditions and may not be hand ling the situation too well. While au tomobile makers have often wished to see a year when the product was in such demand that ' we could sell all we could make regardless of price, or product appeal," the gentleman ad mits that we got our wish. and we do not like it" 1 . Cotton Growers Offered Classification Service Arrangements have been made for Worth Carolina cotton growers to take advantage of the free classification and market news services .offered by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, I. C.-Yagel, Perquimans county agent for the State College Extension Ser vice, announced this week. The services are furnished without charge to organized cotton improve ment groups. In North Carolina, all applications are being submitted by county agents. Time still remains for producers' who are not members of cotton im provement groups to join existing groups, or to organize new groups. Producers are eligible for free cotton classification and market news ser vices this year if they organize, adopt variety of cotton, and make ar rangements for sampling, Mr. Yagel explained. The county agent's of fice, he said, is prepared to help pro ducers organize new groups or to put producers an touch with groups al ready established. The farm agent said that official classing of cotton by the U. S. De partment of Agriculture enables the grower to know the exact grade and staple, length of each bale he produces. "With such information and by check- ling current price quotations," he as serted, "the grower can figure what his cotton should bring. Applications for the free service must be filed by North Carolina groups on or before August 15. x LEGAL NOTICES NOTICE OP ADMINISTRATION Having qualified as Administratrix CTA of the estate of Essie M.
