SOAY SCHOOL LESSON MICAIAH, A PROPHET OF ISRAEL International Sunday School Lesson For July 4 Golden' Text: "As the Lord liveth, what the Lord saith unto me, that will I epeak." I Kings 22:14. Lesson Text:. I Kings 22:1-40. This lesson begins a series of studies of "unheralded Bible charac ters" and include such characters as Michiah, Bezarel, Naomi, Jonathan, Baruch, Ebed, Melech, Andrew, Dor cas, Ananias, Aquila and Priscilla, Barnabas, Eunice, Lois and Timothy. A perusal of the Scripture text re veals that at the time of this lesson the Syrians had seized a city of Israel on the east of Jordan called Ramoth - plead. .As, at that time, there was peace between the kingdom of Israel and of Judah. Ahab, king of Israel, requested the king of Judah, Jeho . shaphat, to help him free the city. Jehoshaphat agreed and sent soldiers to assist Aham, accompanying1 the army himself. When they gathered their armies to fight the Syrians, Jehosphaphat, who was' a worshipper of the Lord, was anxious to learn whether God was on their side, so he asked Ahab to call together the priests to hear what they had to say, on the subject. Four hundred priests responded and, with one voice, declared that the ven ture would be successful. But Je hoshaphat was suspicious of so unani ' mous prophecy and he inquired if these were all of Israel's prophets. Ahab replied that there was one pro phet yet, Micaiah, left, but Ahab hated him for Micaiah never "prophe cies any good about me, but always evil." . , Jehosaphat asked that Micaiah be called and Ahab sent for him. The officer who informed Micaiah that the king wanted him to prophecy for him told him, "All the prophets have spoken good to the king; now I pray you, let your words be like theirs, and do you speak good also.". Mi caiah replied, "As the Lord liveth, what the Lord says to me, that I will epeak." And that is exactly what he did. He told Aham that' the forces of Israel would be scattered as a flock of sheep without a shepherd (pro phecying Ahab's death in battle) and also declared - that the prophets of Israel had been deceiving the king, having "lying spirits" in their mouths. Of course, Ahab was very much dis pleased with Micaiah and, as a pun ishment for his forthright prophecies had him put in prison arid fed only bread and water.. Subsequent events proved the accuracy of Micaiah's pro phecies, as the Israelites were defeat ed and Ahab was slain in battle, an arrow piercing his armor. Micaiah -appears in this one story (Concluded on Page Two) BERE A "CHURCH OFHRIST Rev. Preston Cayton, Pastor Bible School 10:30 A. M., except fourth Sunday, at 10 A. M.
