Highway acci dents accounted lor auo 01 tne fleams. Judge Grants Bond In Shooting Case On motion of defense attorney, W. H. Oakey, Jr., in Recorders Court here Tuesday morning, Judge Charles E. Johnson granted bond to Willie Williams, Negro, held in jail pending the issuing of a warrant charging the -year-old Negro with assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill Charlie L. Skinner, Hertford Negro. Bond was set at $1,000. Sheriff M. G. Owens and Police Of ficer Trotman Miller placed Williams in jail last Saturday night after a shootinsr affray at Jack White's tav ern located at the foot of Church Street. According to Sheriff Owens, Skinner was shot by Williams with a .22 calibre automatic rifle and was hit several times, two of the bullets ri cocheting off the top of Skinner's head, three went through the upper left arm, two through the lungs and chest Trouble between the two men, it was reported, began over a gamb ling dispute. Skinner was taken to the Albemarle Hospital, where he was reported on Tuesday to be in. a satisfactory con dition, and is expected to live. McNider. u Three Injured Monday In Highway Accident Three Hertford residents enroute to the baseball game at Elizabeth City Monday night were injured, one seriously enough to be hospitalized, when the car in which they were riding collided with a jeep making a left turn from the highway near Cul- len's Tourist Camp on US 17 south of Elizabeth City. Taken to the hospital was Charles White who received abrasions of the face and nose and whose condition was reported by hospital officials to day as being "good". His father, Jacob L. White, Sr., and brother, Frank, received minor injuries and were treated by Dr. Carlton Daven port of Hertford. White was trailing S. H. Neece who turned off the highway, the White car colliding with the jeep and .causing damages estimated at $200 to each vehicle by Highway Patrolmen L. E.
