" The new fiber, called T-7, has the look; feel, and other characteristics of ordinary cotton fiber, but also - has some added properties that make cot-4 ton even more versatile, cotton UDer in the T-7 family has permanent re sistance to mildew and bacteria. Fab ric from such fiber will not rot as easily. It will withstand attacks of micro-organisms that ordinarily dam age fiber. ;:- . . I Retains Strength - ; -The" new cotton fiber retains its strength to a greater degree after ex posure to heat and moisture. Fibers in the T-7 family make cot ton yarn and fabric easier to dye. The fiber is more receptive to an classes of dyes, including acid dyes normally unsatisfactory on cotton. Great Potentialities Dr. Jack Compton, technical direc tor of the Institute of Textile Tech nology, sees great possibilities for the new process, significant to me rexme industry and the nation's economy. Farm Fires Increase; Precautions Urged Farm fire losses, which last year reached $133,000,000, are expected to be even higher this year, close to $140,000,000, U. S. Department of Ag riculture reports. Their major caus es, according to the National Board of Fire Underwriters, were carelessness and faulty building construction. Unlike buildings in urban areas where fire departments and water supplies are usually available, those in farm areas often face total destruc tion after they catch fire. Because of this, the National Board of Fire Underwriters has urged farmers to take all necessary steps to remove hazards on their farms. While the help of every member of the family and every employee is needed to overcome carelessness, ttddi ' tional emphasis should be put on all safety precautions. Such precautions actually begin with the construction of the original farm buildings and ap ply to any new ones that are added. In addition, the NBFU says, the fanner should be alert to conditions that may cause fires and use every means poossible to correct them. One of the best ways to discover and recognize hazards is by regular inspection of buildings. Another way is by check-off of the arm Fire Safe- Football Score One of the classic tales of college students and their marks is that of the football coach who protested to his first-string quarterback's math pro fessor, "Oh, come now, I'm sun he doesn't deserve a zero."
