The cost of Government in the United States Federal, State and local combined has grown near ly four times as fast as the en tire economy from the turn of the century to the present, a pe riod of less than an average lifetime, according to data com piled by the U. i. department the Census. Whatever the precise relation ship between the trend of living costs and the rate of growth in the ' cost cf Government from time to time, the record is clear in one fundamental respect.
