Wheat Referendum Set For July 21 Wheat -farmers will vote in a referendum July 21 this year to decide whether marketing quo tas will apply for the 1961 crop, George . Bellmon, Perquimans County ASC office manager, said today. The Secretary of Agriculture has proclaimed quotas and set the referendum date in accord ance with the present law, which requires such action whenever wheat supplies are more than 20 per cent in excess of "normal." The supply fol parity. 1960-61 is estimated to be 92 per Farmers If quojas ; ,are approved,, ill farmers in commercial wheat states with more than 15 acres of wheat. who exceed their acre age allotments will be subject to quota penalties on their "ex cess" except those who comply with the "feed wheat" program. Growers who comply with their allotments will be eligible for price support at the full level available. If quotas are not ap proved, marketing quotas1 and penalties will not be in effect for the, 1961 wheat crop, but acreage allotments will remain in effect, as a condition of eligi bility for price support. Grow ers who comply with their wheat allotments will be eligible for price support at 50 per cent of who will harvest more than 15 aores of 1981' crop wheat ' as ; grain will he eligible to cast ballots in the July 21 referendum. Under quotas, the law provides for wheat price support at a level between 75 and 90 per cent of parity, depending on wheat supply, for producers who comply with their farm acreage allotments. Current indicate a 1961 wheat price sup port at 75 per cent of parity. If marketing quotas , are disapprov ed, thc 1961 support level avail able to such cooperators will be at 50 per cent of partiy.
