A Gold Medallion emblem invites you into a world where everything you "'
need for comfort and convenience is taken care of for you electrically.
Electric heating or year 'round climate conditioning. Electric range i
and refrigerator. A vented kitchen exhaust fan. Electric quick-recovery
waterheating. Light for living. Full housepower wiring. At least ,

today. Still modern tomorrow. Wouldn't that be a nice way to live?

Senate later changes or amends,
ft then becomes necessary for
the House to accept the Senate
version or vice versa. We had
previously passed the Depart
ment of Defense Appropriation
Bill which deleted the authority
to build 18 ships In Great Britain.
The Senate restored this pro
vision, but on this occasion the
House refused to agree to the
Senate version, and insisted that
these 15 ships be built in Ameri
can shipyards, X mention this
for in most cases the House
concurs with the Senate action.
Later in the week the Senate
adopted the House version.
Another startling development
to those of us Interested in the
future of our tobacco economy
was the proposed legislation of
Senator Robert Kennedy of New
York to further attack and weaken
the overall tobacco program.

the details of his proposal, but
my reaction to this is, if the sen
ator is so concerned with the
health of the people of this Na
tlon, I suggest he evaluate the
harm and physical damage done
by the product which has made
both he and his family so very
wealthy. I refer, of course, to the
control of his forefathers of the
Scotch Whisky business in this
Nation. I respectfully submit that
the excessive use of alcohol has
caused a thousand times more
deaths through physical de
terioration, tragic automobile
wrecks, than has the use of
cigarettes. I have never heard
of cigarettes causing the
breakup of a normal home or
denying children the necessities
of life which has happened all
too often from the use of al
cobollc beverages. Yes, I
would suggest that the Senator
direct his concern In other
areas.
Late Thursday night, the
House passed several amend
ments to the existing Ap
palachian Regional Development
Act of 1966. This legislation was
a series of amendments and not
the original bill. Among other
provisions of the amendments,
it provides that tne appropria
tlon in the amount of $900 mil
lion would go directly to the
President for the ultimate de
cision as to how the money
would be spent. In the past, the
allocations nave gone to tne
various Departments, such as
the Department of Agriculture
and Labor, etc. On a very close
vote, these amendments were
adopted. Along with four other
North Carolina Congressmen, I
voted against these amendments
for I did not consider it equitable
or wholesome legislation.
The North Carolina Demo
cratic delegation is proud of our
colleague Congressman L. H.
Fountain of the Second District,
for being selected to serve as
a delegate to the United Nations
for a period of three months.
Congressman Fountain received
this honor as a result of his
Committee membership on the
Committee of Foreign Affairs.
ft Is certainly one of the highest
honors that can come to any
Congressman.

good time to seed winter cover

Hospital Insurance under
Medicare will not only pay hos
pital bills but will help pay the
bill for the continued treat
ment a person may receive in
an Extended Care Faculty. This
part of Medicare will help pay
for the skilled nursing care re
quired after discharge from a
hospital.
Extended Care Benefits under
Medicare have been possible
since January 1, 1967. A doctor
must decide if and when a per
son needs to be admitted to
an Extended Care Facility as
Medicare will not pay for long
term care in a custodial nurs
ing home, :
Extended Care Benefits are
only after a stay of at least 3
days in a hospital and are to
help pay for the additional care
required because of a condi
tion that existed while a per
son was in the hospital. Entrance
Into the Extended Care Facility
must be within 14 days of re
lease from the hospital. Medi
care will pay the full cost of the

Care Facility and all but $8.00
a day for an additional 80 day
period. A person may receive
up to 100 days of treatment In a
