Softball League is shown presenting Linda Spruill
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Spruill and Connie

Certificates to attend The Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center.
The Women's Softball League was organized three
years ago by Mi s. Betty Hurdle and Allen Winsiow.
The Women's Softball League
opened this season by meeting at
the home of Mrs. Betty Hurdle on
April 3rd.
Last year the Club decided to
use any profits to send a local girl
to camp this summer. Through
donations from merchants and
interested individuals there were
enough profits left to send one
girl to camp. The club members
have decided to donate 3 dollars
each thus allowing two girls to go
this year.
The Club was asked by
managers of the Elizabeth City
Softball League to join their
League this year, but turned
down the opportunity to continue
with their project of using their
funds to help the girls of our
community attend summer
camps.
From a list of 15 deserving
girls - Linda Spruill and Connie
Arnold were chosen by lucky
draw. Linda, a 7th giader at
Hertford Grammar School is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Spruill and Connie, who attends
Central Grammar School, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie
Arnold. The two girls will
journey to Reidsville, N. C. to
participate in camping activities
at the Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center
for a week in August.
. The Club having obtained a
coach and an umpire is an
ticipating its best year yet. Mr.
Tommy Cox will serve as coach
and Mr. Richard Lee, a
newcomer to Hertford, has
consented to umpire home
