Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Baker
Miss 'Peggy Louise Lane,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Buel E
Carson of Frederick, Maryland,
became the bride August 22nd of
Paul Harrison Baker, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Neal D. Wolfe of Silver
Spring, Maryland.
' The Rev. Robert Woodard
officiated in the double-ring
ceremony at the First Baptist
Church, Frederick. Mr. Winston
Shipley was organist.
Given in marriage by her
father the bride wore a gown of
candlelight peau de soie covered
with Alencon lace. It was
fashioned with fitted waist,
gathered bodice forming a
sweetheart neckline and long
'sleeves ending in points. Her
elbow length veil of bridal
illusion fell from a headpiece of
Alencon petals outlined with seed
pearls. She carried a bouquet of
miniature white carnations.
Miss Linda Carson, sister of
the bride, was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Miss Kathy
Eddy of Norfolk, Virginia, Miss
Gabrielle Baker of Hertford,
N.C., cousins of the bride, and
Miss Rebecca Frankel of
Milford, Delaware. Heidi Jo
Lane of Hertford, N.C., was
flower girl.
The honor attendant wore a
gown of orchid wonderprint over
white organza. She carried a
cascade of white daisies and
wore a matching bandeau in her
hair. The bridesmaids wore
identical gowns to that of the
honor attendant. They carried
colonial bouquets of yellow and

white daisies and wore matching
bandeau's in their hair. The

white daisies.
Richard Cyr of Silver Spring,
Maryland was best man. Ushers
were Bruce Brizendine and Bill
Yeaman of Silver Spring, and
Jeffrey and Gary Wolfe, brothers
of the groom.
The bride's mother wore a pale
yellow and white ensemble with
matching accessories and a
corsage of yellow roses. The
groom's mother wore a pale
green linen dress with matching
accessories and a corsage of
yellow roses.
Relatives and guests were
present from New Jersey,
Virginia, Ohio, and North
Carolina.
Following the ceremony, a
reception was held in the garden
at the bride's home. Assisting
were Mrs. Maurice Woodard,
Mrs. Robert Eddy, Mrs. Joyce
Ann Powers, and Mrs. Freeland
EL.ott, all aunts of the bride.
For her wedding trip, the bride
wore a silk printed dress with
blue accessories and the cym
bidium orchids lifted from her
bridal bouquet.
Mrs. Baker is also the
daughter of the late Herbert P.
Lane of Hertford and the
granddaughter of Mrs. Singleton
Lane and the late Mr. Lane. Mr.
and Mrs. Baker are residing in
Silver Spring, Maryland where
they are continuing their
education.
The bridegroom's parents
hosted the rehearsal dinner at
their home in Kensington,
Maryland.
Prior to the wedding the bride
was given a miscellaneous
shower by Miss Julia Ed
mundson of Silver Spring, Md.
Barons 4-H Club
Has Meeting
The Barons 4-H Club met at the
home of Mrs. Kate Johnson on
Monday, Oct. 5th with the
President Cynthia D. Norman in
charge. The devotions were led
by Sandra Wiggins, singing
America, The Beautiful. After
which the Lord's Prayer was
said in unison. The minutes were
read by the Secretary Celestine
Modlin and approved: During
the business discussion Cynthia
reported the proceeds made
from the 4-H ball game. Future
plans for the club were discussed
by the group. There were 14
members present. Mrs. Johnson
served hot dogs and punch after
which the meeting was ad
journed by all reciting the 4-H
pledge.
Seminary Held
A Seminar on aging was held
at Poplar Run A.M.E. Zion
Church recently in which the
senior citizens expressed their
opinions as to various
possibilities in which they would
like for themselves. They ex
pressed the need of a meeting
place where, ideas could be ex
changed or to work on their in
dividual hobbies such as art and
craft. Mrs. I.E. Rogerson acted
as chairman for the group. Mrs.
Evelyn Felton acted as recorder
with Mrs. Ida Norman as
registrarant. The panel
discussion was lead by King A.
Williams, H.E. Daughtry and the
Rev. M.H. Ebron. Mrs. M.B.
Taylor, Home Extension Agent
made timely remarks.

Harrell-Elliott Vows Are Exchanged
In a setting of candlelight,
white mums, gladioli and palms,
Miss Nancy Jane Elliott became
the ' bride of Douglas Vernon
Harrell Sunday, September 20, at
4 p.m. at the Hertford Baptist
Church.
The Rev. Norman Harris,
pastor, performed the double
ring ceremony.
Nuptial music was presented
by Mrs. Chester Winslow,
organist, and Mrs. Billy
Williams, soloist.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Elliott of
Rt. 1, Hertford. The bridegroom
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.
Vernon Harrell of Rt. 3, Hert
ford. Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a formal
wedding gown of white Peau de
Soi and imported French lace. It
featured a high-rise bodice, long
bell sleeves, and "A" line skirt.
Her veil of imported silk illusion
and lace was attached to a band
of French lace which ended in a
full length Chapel train and she
carried a nosegay of white
carnations centered with an
orchid.
Mrs. Osie Cooper was matron
of honor. She wore a floor length
gown of Glacier blue Peau de Soi
with an empire waistline accented-

a dress of aqua blue linen with
matching accessories and a

Mrs. Carroll Williams and
Mrs. Peggy Muldrow were
mistresses of the ceremony.
Immediately following the
ceremony a reception was held
in the church social hall.
For her wedding trip to the
Mountains the bride changed
into a mint green knit dress with
beige accessories and the orchid
lifted from her wedding bouquet.
Out-of-town guests included
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schneer of
Portsmouth, Va. and Mr. and
Mrs. Roger Roebuck of Norfolk,
Va.
Bridge Club Meets
Mrs. C. E. Johnson was hostess
to her bridge club Tuesday night
at her home on Front Street.
Those playing were Mrs. W. G.
Wright, Mrs. Montfort Haslam,
Mrs. Charles Whedbee, Mrs. W.
G. Oakey, Jr., Mrs. Lloyd
Horton, Mrs. Peter Ackerman,
Miss Thelma Elliott and the
hostess.
Mrs. Haslam won the high
score prize. A sweet course was
served.

end at Wilmington, visiting his
sisters, Mrs. Burton Myers and
Mrs. Bill Emmart.
Mrs. Dolan Winslow and
children of Virginia Beach
visited Dolan's mother Mrs.
Dempsey Winslow on Saturday
and Denice spent the night with
her grandmother.
Mrs. Sobelia Winslow and Ellis
Stallings both returned to their
homes from Albemarle Hospotal
last week, while Mattie Lassiter
is still a patient there.
Birthday
Celebration
Miss Ethel Eason, a resident at
Morgan's Rest Home, was
honored on her 72nd birthday,
Wednesday, October 7, by her
nieces, Mrs. Calvin Casper, Mrs.
Shirley Reddick, Mrs. Johnnie
Stallings, Mrs. Edward Gregory
and Mrs. Fobes Reddick.
The Casper home was chosen
for the occasion. The dinner was
served at 12 o'clock. The table
was laden with delicious food.
Later the table was graced with
a beautiful birthday cake lighted
with 72 candles.
After dessert the honoree
opened and acknowledged her
many gifts. She also received
numerous cards from friends
and loved ones which brought
gifts of money.
Her sister, Mrs. W. T. Smith,
and Mrs. Tom Pede enjoyed the
very day with them.

attendant.
The bridegroom's father
served as best man. Ushers were

James Pierce and Eugene
Davenport, both of Hertford.
For her daughter's wedding,
the bride's mother chose a Royal
blue knit dress with matching
accessories and a white orchid.
The bridegroom's mother wore
